15 Minute Chicken Fajitas Recipe

I apologize in advance… I don’t have a pretty, plated, “finished” photo of this recipe :( The Mister accidentally deleted a few pics off of my camera. And of course they were the final set of pics for this post. So, you’ll get to see the deliciousness of the fajitas in the pan, but not actually on a plate with sides. Sorry friends! But the recipe still rocks :) [Read more…]

Free Books and Cheeseburgers

In my house, eating healthy is important. Abby is starting to learn the difference between “healthy foods,” and things like candy and cookies. I have a big veggie garden, fruit trees, and am learning to can and freeze some of that delish harvest for the winter months. But, even though I am on a big mission to help my family live cleaner and greener, I still think there’s room for fun foods – things that aren’t that healthy, but sure taste good.

As with all things in life I try to live by the 80/20 rule – 80% healthy foods, 20% splurges. And one of Abby’s favorite splurges is a Happy Meal from McDonald’s. Like, it’s her F-A-V-O-R-I-T-E. You know that scene from Cinderella, where they sing the “Sweet Nightingale” song? {The video below can jog your memory if you need it…}

Well, Abby was watching this recently. And you know how little kids will try to fake sing a song? {She just turned 3 in late July.} They’ll kind of silently move their mouths, getting a word in every now and again, as they try to learn the song? Well, I’m watching Abby do that, thinking how cute it was, when suddenly she starts singing along, with her own lyrics….

“Sweet, sweet Happy Meal. Sweet, sweet, Happy Meal. I-a-a-a-aiiii, I love you….”

Seriously, I was like Ron Burgundy. I was in a glass case of emotion – so many feelings going on…. It was the most precious little moment watching her sing so incredibly serious and sweet. It was also one of the funniest things I’d ever heard in my life. I was laughing, crying, and ooh-ing and ahh-ing all at the same time. This silly girl is definitely my kid. :)

McDonald's Happy Meals have books in November

Well, we recently stopped at her beloved McDonald’s to get her favorite – a cheeseburger Happy Meal, with fries and apple slices {lucky for me, the apples are her favorite part!} – plus a low fat chocolate milk. Did you know that McDonald’s has dedicated the whole month of November to supporting the importance of reading in kid’s lives? Yep, every day this month they’ll be encouraging kids to read by including a book in every Happy Meal sold. [Read more…]

White Chocolate and Pumpkin Spice Brownie Bites

This fall treat post is sponsored by Global Influence with super yummy fall candy provided by Hershey’s.

I’m lucky to live in a place where we have four very distinct seasons – Yakima, Washington. And while it’s very hard to choose a favorite, I do think fall is it. I live in a really agricultural area, filled with farms and orchards and vineyards, so not only is it beautiful here this time of year as the leaves change colors – it’s a delicious time of year too. There are so many local produce and farm stands to choose from, and there are tons of fun pick-your-own pumpkin patches. And speaking of pumpkin…. Here in Washington, we’re also the home of Starbucks, and the un-official drink of fall, the Pumpkin Spice Latte! And since I’m a big fan of all things pumpkiny, I created a sweet treat inspired by my favorite flavors of fall – White Chocolate & Pumpkin Spice Brownie Bites. Yum-mazing.

Powdered Sugar Mummy Donuts

This is a super fun Halloween treat for kids – and you can make these Powdered Sugar Mummy Donuts in just a few minutes. They’d be a fun treat any time of the year too – not just at Halloween. Kids love fun foods and silly faces. {I know that sometimes the only way I can get Abby to finish her meals is to make them into creative themes or shapes!} I wanted a last minute surprise treat for the boys yesterday when they got home from school, so I whipped these up with what I had on hand – it takes less than 5 minutes to make a dozen mummy donuts. They’re fun as a gift, and would be great for a party too.

Ultimate Party Meatballs Recipe

Disclosure: I received Heinz®, Johnsonville® and Ocean Spray® products in exchange for sharing this recipe. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Hi, my name is Meagan, and I like to party. {Anyone else get the Hot Rod movie reference? :)} But seriously. I love to entertain, and will take any excuse to throw a party – holidays, birthdays, Tuesdays…. During the summer we always have a full house, since we’re the only house in our group of friends and family that has a pool. And we’re coming into my other favorite time of year – the winter holidays! So, needless to say, I’m always looking for new party-friendly recipes to add to my collection.

Layers of Smokehouse Brisket Flavors

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Arby’s for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

In my house, there are two different types of cooks. I’m the casual cook – I prefer throwing stuff in a crockpot, mixing up a simple casserole or pasta dish, or tossing together a quick skillet dinner. The Mister is the meat man. We bought a fancy new grill this year from Sears – it has two sides, one for charcoal and one for propane, giving him a ton of room to work his magic. We’ve got indoor grilling gadgets, he can cook a roast like nobody’s business, and one of his favorite things is a good brisket. So when I heard that Arby’s had a new Smokehouse Brisket sandwich on the menu, I knew he’d want to check it out.

How to Make Healthy Eating Fun

This post about healthy breakfasts that are high in fiber is brought to you by Kellogg’s and The Motherhood, and I’ve been compensated for my time. However, all opinions are my own, as always. Thanks for reading.

Nine out of 10 children do not get enough fiber in their diet. Did you know that? Many of you might not have – but fiber intake is kind of a big thing for me, so I’ve heard this statistic for a long time now. It’s gotten pretty easy for me to make sure I’m getting enough fiber – I love whole grain bread, I’ve switched to mostly brown rice and whole grain pasta – and especially in the fall, I make a ton of soup and chili that are packed full of high-fiber beans. But Abby isn’t as big of a fan of whole grains yet {she just turned 3 in late July.} So I just keep introducing new foods, hoping she’ll find new favorites.
