This is a super fun Halloween treat for kids – and you can make these Powdered Sugar Mummy Donuts in just a few minutes. They’d be a fun treat any time of the year too – not just at Halloween. Kids love fun foods and silly faces. {I know that sometimes the only way I can get Abby to finish her meals is to make them into creative themes or shapes!} I wanted a last minute surprise treat for the boys yesterday when they got home from school, so I whipped these up with what I had on hand – it takes less than 5 minutes to make a dozen mummy donuts. They’re fun as a gift, and would be great for a party too.
All you need to create these mummy donuts are a package of powdered sugar mini donuts, some white chocolate Wilton candy melts, some Wilton Candy Eyeballs {I LOVE these things and use them all the time!} and then something to drizzle your melted candy melts. If you do a lot of baking you might have extra decorating bags to use; if not, a ziploc baggie will work just fine.
I made a few dozen, packaged them up on cute Halloween plates that I got at the dollar store, and wrapped ’em up with cellophane and spooky ribbon. Perfect gifts for a couple of my mom friends and their kids – easy peasy, inexpensive, and super fun.
Then I made another half dozen and hid them inside the donut box, to surprise the boys when they got home from school. They loved it :)
Ingredients
- Dozen {or more!} mini powdered sugar donuts
- Wilton candy eyeballs
- Wilton white chocolate candy melts
Instructions
- Place about 10 Wilton white chocolate candy melts into your decorating bag or ziploc baggie. Follow the package instructions to melt them in the microwave. Once they seem melted, be sure to squish the bag a bit, to ensure they're melted all the way through and smooth.
- Cut the tip off of whichever type of bag you're using - cut just a tiny way up for a fine drizzle, or higher up for a thick stripe.
- Dot a bit of the candy melts on the back of each set of candy eyes and stick 'em on. Then just randomly drizzle the melts back and forth across the donuts to turn them into mummys. Don't worry about being perfect - just squeeze away!
- Give them a minute or two to cool and harden - and they're ready to package up or enjoy.
Happy Halloween – and be sure to pin this to remember it next year! You can also follow me on Pinterest here for more fun ideas and inspiration all year long.
