Marvel’s #TheAvengers Sets New Records – Learn Why!

MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS DOMESTIC DEBUT SETS ALL-TIME INDUSTRY RECORD AT $200.3 MILLION

Honestly, I hadn’t paid a whole lot of attention to this movie until I started hearing all the buzz in the blogosphere about it. My friend Darcy at Tales from the Nursery, got to attend the red carpet event in NYC for The Avengers Premier, which sounds like such an amazingly cool event! Then I read my girl Sadie’s review of The Avengers too – and realized that this sounds seriously good. So when I heard the news that this movie has totally blown away the competition, and set new records in ticket sales, that sealed the deal. I see a date night in the near future!

“In just three days, Marvel’s the Avengers is the fastest movie to reach $200 million domestically. The domestic debut kicked off Friday, May 4 and marks the second highest single day take of all time at $80.5 million. Saturday’s box office gross of $69.7 million is the highest Saturday take of all time. Moviegoers gave Marvel’s The Avengers a rare and perfect A+ CinemaScore.” Sounds like pure awesomeness to me.

Marvel’s The Avengers began opening internationally April 25 and crossed the $600 million mark globally May 6 after just 12 days in release.

The film’s success comes a month after Marvel and Disney announced that a sequel to 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger will be released April 4, 2014. A sequel to last summer’s Thor is scheduled for release November 15, 2013, and the third installment of the hit Iron Man series, which has earned over $1.2 billion worldwide, will arrive in theaters May 3, 2013. Marvel’s The Avengers is the first Marvel Studios film to be marketed and distributed by The Walt Disney Studios.

I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about this movie – but hadn’t stopped to take a minute to see what it was all about until tonight. Why made me take a break to watch the trailer – finally? Well, I got an email that tomorrow is Brothers & Sisters Day, and Sprinkles Cupcakes has partnered with People Like Us to celebrate – by giving away FREE cupcakes at all of their locations. Awesome, right? But then maybe you’re like me, and thinking – what does this movie have to do with Brothers & Sisters Day? Which is why I was finally intrigued enough to Stop the Blog for a minute {lol}, and check out some clips from the movie. And since I know YOU are interested now too – here ya go, ladies:

Rethinking the meaning of family

Here’s the official info: “In a story inspired by true events, Sam, a twenty-something, fast-talking salesman, is tasked with fulfilling his estranged father’s last wishes—delivering an inheritance to a sister he never knew he had. Starring Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Wilde and Michelle Pfeiffer, PEOPLE LIKE US opens in theaters June 29.” The unofficial info: I predict needing a tissue or two for this film! I’m such a sap – it’s not too touch to get me cryin’ during a movie. But this one seems like the kind of thing to really get me – a mom who is struggling to provide for her kiddo as best as she can, an older brother who wants to help her out, and protect her…. Yep, totally gets me. {Love you brother!}

Starting at 11:30 a.m. on May 3, AMC Theatres will show the Ultimate Marvel® Movie Marathon: Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger —followed by the midnight premiere of Marvel’s The Avengers!

I am super excited to see this when it comes out, and the boys in our house are going crazy for it already. I’m sure there are a ton of you moms out there who know what I’m talking about, lol. So, if you’re big Marvel fans, here’s some info for ya:

We don’t have ANY theaters in Washington where I can go and see this – but I had to share with you guys when I heard about it this morning, because I know some of you will be able to go. Touring the Nike HQ – Young Athletes Innovation Summit #NikeKids

Remember when I told you that we’d be heading out soon to the Nike Young Athletes Innovation Summit at the Nike World Headquarters, in Beaverton, Oregon? Well – We’re HEEEEEERE!!!! The campus here at the Nike is over-the-top amazing. They call it a campus, and I can see why – It’s set up just like a college campus, with lots of separate buildings set around some beautiful open outdoor spaces. It is absolutely GORGEOUS, and must be just an amazing site to go to work at each day. This place is over 190 acres of pure awesomeness.

We have had a total blast today touring the Nike World Headquarters, meeting some totally amazing people, and getting to join in on some super fun stuff. The kids got along great – and some really good new friends were made – I think that Cade has a total new best friend!! And it wasn’t JUST the kids making new friends – I LOVED finally getting a chance to meet some of my favorite online bloggy buddies in real life, like Mickey from A Helicopter Mom, Jeannette from The Adventures of J-Man and MillerBug, Linette from Kids Fun Review, Daisy from The It Mom, Angela from About a Mom – and I met some totally amazing new people too. Seriously, I could not have asked for a better bunch of ladies to spend the weekend with!

He Just DID It…. Designed his own one-of-a-kind Nike shoes!

There were so, so, SO very many amazing things that we saw, heard, and learned about during the day. And there were so, so, SO very many amazing activities that the kids got to do. But – since I’m super limited on time today – Here are just a few highlights from our adventures at Nike:

  1. The kids got to climb rock walls, go swimming in the Lance Armstrong Center pool, create their own, totally customized shoes with the Nike design team – and they even got to go into some Top Secret areas where the athletes help test out new products!
  2. The moms – and the 2 dads! – got to tour the campus, learn about some super-cool upcoming products Nike will be launching later this year, had a Q & A Skype session with Mia Hamm, and got to do some serious shopping at the Nike Company Store. LOVE it!
  3. They even set up two separate lounge areas – one for the kids, that had a Wii, an XBox, AND a Playstation – and loads of snacks. And another for the adults, with some of the best cookies and pastries I’ve ever eaten in my entire life. Seriously.

I know that you guys have been waiting for some updates on our trip – but since I don’t have a laptop, I’m using the business center computer here at The Nines hotel to give you this quick update – which means I don’t have a way to load up any cool new pics to share! Our flight leaves soon – so I’m going to have to make this post short and sweet. But – I’ve been posting updates on social media like crazy all weekend, and you can check out more of the pics and cool info here:

I have SOOO much more amazing stuff to share with you guys – From info about the new Nike Free shoes, tips on how to keep your own little athletes safe when training for their favorite sports, to some cool behind-the-scenes info about the Nike campus – I can’t wait to get home and write a longer post, with more of my pics! so, I’ll give you a better update tomorrow – and once I get some of the photos that Nike took of the kids, {we all felt like we were on a reality show, with all the camera crew following us around all day! The kids looooved it!} – I’ll have even more to share with you guys next week – So totally stay tuned. HUGE thank you’s to the Nike team, and to the great people from Glam – for setting up such an amazing experience for our kids! Every detail was planned and thought of, we were all treated to some amazing gear, meals, and good times, and both the adults and the kiddo’s made some really wonderful new friends that will last long after this event. I know I speak for all of us when we say – Nike Kids Rocks!!!!

The Phrase “Working Mother” is Redundant…

I found this perfectly funny little story on Facebook today – it came from my very favorite Scentsy rep – Lucinda Faragher. {Love Scentsy? Check her out – She is the so amazingly helpful, love her. Anyway – I think all of you will totally relate to this too. And after the crazy-stressful-awful week I’ve just been through with my website getting hacked, I am in need of some good laughs! If you’ve got a funny post to share – leave me some comments. Totally need to read some humor today!

Life in the Motherhood…

A man came home from work and found his 3 children outside, still in their pyjamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn around the yard. The door of his wife’s car was open, as was the front door to the house – and no sign of the dog. Walking in the door, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, the throw rug was against one wall, in the front room the TV was on loudly with the cartoon channel, the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door. He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife.

He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened.

He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls. As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife curled up in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel… She looked up at him, smiled and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, ‘What happened here today?’ She again smiled and answered, ‘You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world do I do all day?… ”Yes,” was his incredulous reply..

She answered, ‘Well, today I didn’t do it.’

Right?? Love it. So true. And if you are an over-worked mom that appreciates a bit of “mommy humor” – check out my board devoted to it on Pinterest. It’s one of my favorites.
