How to Sleep Like a Baby – Even When You Have a Baby

Thank you to Nature’s Sleep for providing me with memory foam products to try out and share my honest opinion with you ladies.

“People who say they sleep like a baby usually don’t have one.” – Leo J. Burke… This quote is so darn true, right? I remember when Abby was born – I had never experienced such extreme exhaustion in my entire life. She hated going to sleep, and I’d rock her for hours sometimes. Then she’d wake up repeatedly all night long – waking me up too. I wish I’d know what I know now back in those bleary-eyed days – so I’m sharing some tips to help you sleep better once you bring a new baby home too. Keep reading to learn what worked for us.

Unplug Your Kids: Lilliputiens Toys for Sensory Stimulation and Creative Learning

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” – Pablo Picasso… As a blogger, I obviously see the amazing value of the internet – I’m constantly connected to the web on my smartphone, my laptop, my Kindle, my iPod… You get the picture. So I’m definitely OK with my almost 3-year old having some cool tech toys – she adores learning letters on her LeapPad, and the new Ubooly we’ve been playing makes acting out imaginary scenes super fun. But – I do still love toys that really help kids develop their imagination. Toys that are simple – but clever. So many toys these days have a million flashing lights and beeping noises and moving parts – it’s almost like they play themselves, and kids just sorta follow along. So, I’m super excited to share a new toy we recently tried out that I am IN.LOVE.WITH. She’s called Ophelia, she has 4 adorable chicks, and I think you’ll love her too….

Tips for “Spring Cleaning” Your Toddler

“In the spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt.” – Margaret Atwood… Ah, spring. Seriously, one of my favorite times of year. I live in central Washington, where we have four VERY distinct seasons – so spring brings a wonderful break from the snowy cold of winter. And, it means it’s time to get the garden going again! Abby adores helping grandma and I plant flowers and dig in the dirt… I actually just bought her a little Garden Playhouse, since she loves grandma’s planting shed so much. But, while we love working in the dirt, and transforming a big patch of it into something beautiful and full of color – I don’t really want us all to smell like dirt at the end of the day….

All Things Baby – And How to SAVE On Them All Too!

Save big on all things baby… Ok, you probably know that I’m a frugal type. I’ve always been careful with my money, always searched out the best deals, always invented new ways to stretch my dollars further. This comes from growing up poor… {Like, real poor. Like, family that the church sponsored one year at Christmas.} I watched my mom use our very meager resources in creative ways, always making sure that life was still fun and full – even on a low budget. That background has helped me in so many ways as an adult, and I’m so grateful for it. I never could have made it as a new mom without those frugal skills….

{This post contains affiliate links to help support this site.}

“Poverty is hereditary – you get it from your children.” – Phyllis Diller… Yep, you get a lot of things from your kids. Sleepless nights – first, when they’re a newborn and require constant care, then again as teenagers, when you’re up all night worrying whether they’re safe. Wrinkles from worry, grey hairs from stress, and if you’re not careful – one heck of a hole in your budget! So many people assume that babies have to be expensive – but honestly, through experience, I’ve learned that does not have to be true. Keep reading to find out what I’ve learned, and how I learned it…

Are You Prepared for Mom-Emergencies?

Are you ready for a major emergency?... Everyone by now has heard about the crazy-chaos in the New York area after major-storm Sandy last month. As a West Coaster, up here in Washington State, I didn’t even know until recently that there are a lot of people on the East Coast who have to do major prep for even regular storms during the winter. Here, we don’t have generators, we don’t stockpile food or supplies {unless we’re big-time couponers}, and we don’t have to worry about power outages for more than a very rare hour or two. But now that I have friends on the East Coast, the whole idea of preparing a little more thoroughly for emergencies has stuck with me. And, as a busy mom – preparing for disaster is kind of my middle name, right? [Read more…]
