Gardening inspired by Pinterest – Learn how to create your own succulent container garden… I’d always heard about the free workshops at the Home Depot, and they sounded super fun, but I’d never actually attended one before. Why? Well, I don’t really know. I suppose just because I’m always so busy. I always said, “Next month I should check that out…” Then a few weeks ago I was invited to help host one of the Do-It-Herself Workshops here locally. It was all about gardening inspired by Pinterest, and would be teaching attendees how to create their own succulent container gardens. The Home Depot experts would be on hand to share tips and advice – and they wanted me to offer up some fun design tips, to help the women at the event learn how to make their garden unique. I am SUCH a fan of succulents – {remember the ones I planted in mason jars recently?} – so of course I jumped at the opportunity!

Telling the big ol’ internets how much I weigh. It was pretty scary – but in a way, actually very liberating. I’ve been trying to ignore how much I weigh, trying to ignore the fact that very few of my pants fit well, trying to ignore that my double chin seems to have grown it’s own double chin. But by posting my weight here, finally taking steps to do something about it, and reading all of the supportive comments from you awesome ladies, I’m feeling pretty darn good. I wasn’t expecting to really lose much weight here at the beginning, I’m mostly just trying to make smarter choices… So when I weighed in this week on Wednesday morning, I was VERY pleasantly surprised to see that I’d lost 1.6 pounds! {Also, while I did post my weigh in photo on Instagram on Wednesday morning, I am late getting the post up because Wednesday was my birthday. After two days of celebrating I’m back to work again…}

It’s all about taking charge, learning new skills, discovering ways to do things yourself instead of paying someone to do it, and finding creative new ways to make your home your own – all in a way that fits your budget. My family is filled with love and laughter, silly jokes and sarcasm, happiness and hugs. It’s also filled with an assortment of unfortunate health problems. My dad has suffered from Chron’s Disease since I was a kid. It’s led to so many surgeries and procedures and complications over the years. My youngest brother was born with Aortic Stenosis, and had open heart surgery at 16 to have the valve replaced. My mom is pretty healthy – she was always the caregiver. She took care of my grandpa when he had lung cancer, my grandma when she suffered from alzheimer’s, and many of my great aunts and uncles during their nursing home years. I learned so much from watching her do all of that – how important it is to have an advocate when you’re in the hospital or a nursing facility, how hard it can be to navigate all of the paperwork and procedures, and how expensive it can be as those bills all add up. And, one big challenge that many people deal with as they age is figuring out how to get the most from their health plan, and learning to save more on prescriptions by understanding their Medicare Part D plans.
