10 Ways to Nurture Your Happiness Today

I want to share an awesome post today, from one of my very favorite websites – www.marcandangel.com – “Practical Tips for Productive Living”. It’s called 50 Ways to Nurture Your Happiness. Seriously take a minute to sign up for their email updates – every post is so inspirational, motivating, and moving. Today’s post is about how to nurture your happiness – which as busy moms, is something we tend to forget about. Yes, you are a mom, and your family is your top priority. But you’re still “you”, too. And we all know, that in any home, if momma ain’t happy, no one’s happy, lol. Read more, and start your day energized and ready to take on the world….

50 ways to nurture your happiness

Decide to be happy. It’s good for your health.

The happiest people I know appreciate what they have, keep an open mind to new ideas and ventures, use their leisure time as a means of self development, and love good music, good books, good pictures, good company and good conversation. In other words, they do small things every day to nurture their happiness. It’s a lot easier than it sounds. Anything that helps you feel more positive and joyful is self-nurturing. The result? A happier, healthier you. Here are 50 simple ideas to get you started with nurturing your happiness.

  1. Act like today is already an awesome day. – Do so, and it will be. Research shows that although we think that we act because of the way we feel, in fact we often feel because of the way we act. A great attitude always leads to great experiences. Read The How of Happiness.
  2. Make yourself smile first thing in the morning. – It’s difficult to feel down when your face is happy. Fill your bathroom or bedroom mirror with post-it notes of your favorite quotes, goals, mantras, photos, etc., and then reflect on them for a minute or two when you first wake up.
  3. Spend time with people who make you smile. – Who nourishes and supports you? Surround yourself with these people. Spend time with those who reflect the person you want to be – people who do good things and make your life a little brighter simply by being in it.

Love it? There are 47 more amazing tips in this post – find the rest in the original article, 50 Ways to Nurture Your Happiness. Make sure to follow them on Facebook and Twitter too, for daily doses of inspiration.

10 Ways I Will Nurture My Happiness Today

Inspired by this article, I made a list of 10 things that I will commit to doing today, to bring some sunshine into my life. I encourage you to make a quick list today too – heck, why not make one every day! – and I’d love to hear what you come up with. Post a comment below, or on my Facebook page, letting me know what 10 things you come up with!

  1. Take a deep breath. I’ve been up, working at the computer, since 6am. I didn’t go to bed until almost 1am. I’m tired. Very tired. But – I will go outside, to the garden, and take a few big deep breaths. I will shake off that tired, grumpy feeling, and energize myself for the work I have to accomplish today.
  2. Practice gratitude. It’s so easy, when life is stressful, to forget about all of the amazing things in life to be happy about. Each hour today I will find one thing to be grateful for, and take a moment to appreciate it.
  3. I will use the “good” creamer. I’m on the Nutrisystem plan, and love it. I’m seeing some success already, which motivates me to work harder. But today, I will give myself a little treat – instead of coffee with only skim milk, I will use the super yummy Cinnamon Bun creamer in the fridge. {A little treat won’t hurt!}
  4. I will read the whole newspaper. I usually rush through it, in a hurry to get back to work and household tasks. Today I will give myself enough time to read the articles that interest me, let them inspire and educate me, and just relax for a little bit. I work too much most days.
  5. I will take play-breaks. I work from home, which is an awesome blessing, since I have a 20-month old little girl. But sometimes, it’s a struggle finding balance between being a mom all day, and being the boss all day. I will make sure to take more mini-breaks today for silly dance parties and building with blocks. It makes me smile, which will make my workload easier.
  6. I will bring in flowers. We have a few early spring buds blooming in my garden. I will cut just a couple, put them in a small vase, and set them on my desk. Flowers make me happy.
  7. I will put on lip gloss and accessories. I hate that I get into such a frump-mom rut sometimes. Since I work here at home, I don’t even need pants to go to work if I don’t want to, lol. But getting pretty, even if it’s only the fam who sees me, makes me feel better. Who feels glum with sparkly earrings, right?
  8. I will light some candles. The house is a bit of mess, but lighting some candles somehow makes everything seem a little better. It smells fresher, the dancing light – even during the day – makes things a little more festive. And I love festive.
  9. I will take a bubble bath. This is my favorite thing, and we have a big jacuzzi tub too. I always feel like I don’t have enough time to enjoy a bath – but today, I will grab my little one, and let her indulge her love of “baaa-bubbles” in a fun bedtime bath with momma.
  10. I will give hugs and kisses. A nighttime snuggle from my little girl is the best-est thing in my world. Tonight I will make sure to be fully present, and appreciate that moment that ends my day.

Make sure to share your list with me – whether it’s 3 things you’ll do today, 20, or just one simple change you’ll commit to, to make your day brighter – I would LOVE to hear them! Share in a comment or on Facebook – and have a wonderful day!

Life is good. And it’s good to remember that….

Be Featured on a Curious George DVD! – #CuriousGeorgeMoms

Curious George Dance Party

Exercise Your Creativity with Dance!

Everyone loves to dance, right? Football players whip out some crazy dance moves when they make a touch down. Your husband probably does a little dance at home too when his team scores. I pull out some sweet 80’s dance moves when I’m cooking dinner, lol. And, I am SO glad to see that my little girl loves to dance as much as I do – She has her favorite songs on the radio, and will yell “Dance?? Dance!!” until everyone in the house is doing silly dances with her too. Goofy? Yes. Sometimes embarrassing if we have company? For sure. But those giggles and twirls and wiggles? Priceless.

Join the Curious George Dance Party!

Just like my little monkey – Curious George loves to dance too. Dancing is a great exercise for little bodies – it builds coordination, creativity, and confidence. So grab your little dancers, turn on your video camera, and capture your families best moves for a chance to be featured in an upcoming Curious George DVD. How cool is that, right?

How it works:

You’ll want to head over to the Curious George Dance Party Contest site to read all the rules and regulations. But here’s a quick overview to get started:

  1. Get a video of your cute little monkey dancing to the Curious George theme song. {You’ll find it on the contest site!} There’s a limit of 60 seconds per video, so no need for anything too complicated or time-consuming. Just have fun with it!
  2. Submit your video and fill out the easy entry form. And do it soon – the deadline for submitting your awesome videos is April 2, 2012.
  3. A panel of judges will choose 10 finalists, based on creativity, enthusiasm, and originality. Those 10 super fun videos will be posted on their site, so that fans can vote on their very favorite little dancer. I can’t wait to see the finalists!
  4. The grand prize winner will have their moves featured on an upcoming Curious George DVD, a great Curiousity Kit filled with fun Curious George goodies, and maybe even a visit from George himself! There are also prize packages for all of the runners up too.

So what are you waiting for? Head on over to the contest page today to download the theme song – {Unless you’re like us, and have plenty of DVD’s to pop in for music} – and get your monkey-moves on today!

Have fun & Good Luck!

Doing What I Love – Sharing My Favorite Things With You!

Why I Love What I Do

I love this quote above – It’s so incredibly true. And I am SO blessed to be able to do what I do everyday. I love writing, I love photography, I love crafty/DIY/creative stuff, I love networking and marketing. So I rolled up all of those things that I love, and created this site! I get to share my favorite things with you guys each day – and that is the best kind of work that there is.

What You Can Look Forward to This Year

So… I had set up a schedule for this year, with different themes for each month. This helps to keep me organized, allows me to put together some great projects, and is just more fun. But – then in the middle of last month, my computer crashed. My hard drive failed, I had to take it to two different repair shops, only to learn that I had lost all of my photos, files, and information. {Eeeeeeeck!!!!} After losing a full week due to lack of computer, plus the loss of all of my work, I totally got thrown off schedule! But, I’m getting back on track now – so I can finally share this years editorial calendar with you. This gives you a big picture idea of what kind of cool stuff you’ll find on this site over the coming months…..

  1. April: This month is all about simplifying technology and home office organization. I’m putting together an awesome guide on how to choose the best laptop, will be sharing a bunch of cool gadgets, sites, and apps that will totally help you in your busy life, and will be sharing loads of the “Smart Solution” tips that you expect to find here each day. {I’ll also have a wonderful Mother’s Day Gift Guide running from mid-April until Mother’s Day, May 13th….}
  2. May: This month is all about Outdoor Living. Since many of us are on tighter budgets this year, a great alternative to spending on pricey vacations is to invest some bucks in upgrading your own outdoor space. For the same price as a weekend trip, you can build an outdoor oasis to enjoy all summer long. I’ll share gardening tips, and some great pool-prep tricks we learned getting ours ready last year. I’m searching out the best value in outdoor toys and patio furniture, and I’ll show you loads of pictures of our backyard transformation too.
  3. June: As the weather turns warmer, I’ll be focused on easy fashion and beauty advice for summer. From budget-friendly fashion ideas, to tips on humidity-proofing your hair – I’ll make sure you’re ready to start the season in style.
  4. July: It’s party time!! The month starts off with a bang at our house – 4th of July, followed a few days later by my nephews 6th birthday bash – This year is a Lego Theme. A couple of weeks later is my little girls 2nd birthday! Last year was pretty epic, so we’ll try to outdo it this year. {I’m thinking a Pirate and Princess Party!} – With our big in ground pool and huge property, we entertain pretty much all summer long, so this month’s theme is all about birthdays and BBQ’s.
  5. August: Back to school already? Yep – summer always just flies by, right? I will search out the very best values in back to school supplies, gear, and fall fashions. You’ll find some awesome giveaway events, and lots of great tips to help adjust to the changing season.
  6. September: This is the time of year that I get back into the kitchen again. Just like Spring Cleaning, I like to do a Fall Spruce Up too – take the summer serving pieces and party dishes back out to the garage, and replace them with fall pieces. I start craving heartier foods again – it’s time for crock pots and roasters, pies and pumpkins. I’ll share my favorite recipes, kitchen organization tips, and more.
  7. October: ??? I have a ton of ideas for this – But haven’t quite narrowed it down. I’d LOVE for you guys to leave me some suggestions in the comments of what you’d most like to see featured!
  8. November: This month I will be sharing some of my favorite crafty ideas – because homemade gifts rock! With the holiday season approaching fast, this is a great time to start creating one-of-a-kind gifts for your favorite people.
  9. December: Christmas time!!! Oh, how I love this time of year. You can expect to see tons of creative ideas for meal planning and decorating, and the very best shopping advice around. I love low prices, but I’m more about value – A high-end item is worth paying more for if the quality is there. I’ll find you the best value for your holiday shopping buck, match it with great cash-back shopping sites – then even show you cool ideas to wrap your packages, too. Christmas is such a beautiful way to end the year….

I hope that you’re as excited as I am about these monthly themes! Of course, each month will have loads of other content too – I’m not going to post on only the months theme. But this gives me a way to put together some fun series of posts, create some really awesome giveaway events, and build cool content for you to read. The end of March is my One-Year Blogiversary – {I can’t believe it’s been a year already!} – And I can’t wait to see what adventures the rest of this year brings me.

Thanks for reading – You all rock!

{Mildly Extreme} Master Bedroom & Playroom Makeover

Yes, by that headline, you’ve probably figured out what this post is about – The planning for my {Mildly Extreme} Master Bedroom & Playroom Makeover. We’re on a ridiculously tight budget, which is why it will be only mildly extreme, lol. But – There is SO much that you can do to totally transform a space without spending a ton, just by being super creative and resourceful. And creative is one skill that I do actually excel at! {Unlike cooking…. But that’s another story.}

master bedroom in shades of grey

This is an awesome room. This is not my room.

I found this amazing photo on Pinterest, but unfortunately, it doesn’t link up anywhere. {Pinterest tip: PLEASE make sure you pin to original sources when adding content!} So I have no idea who to credit, or how to get any of these materials. But – this is kind of my inspiration for my space – I’ll be painting our walls this color – {any suggestions of paint brands? I hated the last kind I used!} – and painting our trim white. Our room is already in shades of black and grey, but I love, love, love the use of textures and patterns here. Just perfect.

What I’m Workin’ With:

carousel designs baby girl crib bedding

Mommy and Me – Sharing a Room

This is the designer crib bedding set that Abby has right now – It’s from Carousel Designs, and it was so worth the cost. It was the most expensive purchase I made when shopping for baby stuff – but it’s as gorgeous today as it was when I bought it, even after 20 months of washing. Due to our big, crowded household of extended family, Abby and I have been sharing the Master Bedroom, and will be for about another year. {But that’s ok, since we both adore pink and polka dots.} Now that she’s become a toddler, I want to upgrade our space, and make more room for her to play. My office is also in the bedroom until the end of the year, so the big challenge in this makeover is to make separate areas for all of the uses in the room. Also – Speaking of challenges – This Master Bedroom was built without a closet! Whaaaat? There was clearly no woman involved in the planning on this, lol. So we’re building one in.

damask and polka dot bedding

This is what I sleep on – Keep, or Switch?

I chose this bedding set before Abby was born, because it matched so well to hers. The polka dot trim and damask type pattern tie them together really well. But, while I do still totally love it, I feel kind of ready for a change. I’m debating a few different options, and you can see them on my Master Bedroom & Playroom Makeover planning board on Pinterest. I’d LOVE some comments on this board, with your opinions as I add and decide.

The Makeover Plan

Over the next two months, I’ll share pics of our projects and progress, and of course a big reveal at the end! Here are a few of my plans and ideas:

  1. Build a closet. I wanted to go all-out, and build a really awesome customized closet… But, most of what I wanted was out of my price range. So, we’ll be building a smaller, but still cool, closet along one wall.
  2. Convert to a toddler bed. Abby’s crib has a few scratches from moving last year, but is still in really great shape. It’s the type of crib that converts to a toddler bed, and I think it’s about time to make the switch.
  3. Cover the carpet. I’d LOVE to add laminate floors, but that will be a year or two from now. Our carpets wasn’t in great shape when we moved in – and with a toddler and a puppy here, they are a mess. So, we’re going the more affordable route – We’ll be doing a thorough carpet cleaning, and ordered an awesome new rug from Mohawk Home, to cover the damage and really upgrade the room.
  4. Playroom Space. We just got the sling bookshelf from One Step Ahead, which is an adorable way to store and display Abby’s book collection. I also ordered a super cool toy chest, and we just set up the ClosetMaid 9-Cube Organizer, with some cute pink fabric bins, and it’s going to be an AWESOME new option for toy storage!
  5. Office Space. I will be moving my desk and shelves to a corner, with my rolling file cabinet and lamp, to make a great little office area. I need a rug, and will add the ClosetMaid Mini-Organizer to keep all of my smaller accessories neat and easy to access.
  6. Wall Art. We’ll be painting the walls and trim, and I’m in need of some cool wall art too. The room has really high vaulted ceilings, so the walls right now look very bare. I have a TON of cool ideas to choose from on my Creative Wall DIY board on Pinterest – Leave some comments to help me decide. There are so many amazing ideas there to be inspired by!

There’s a boat-load of work to do, but I’m super excited to get started! We had meant to get this rockin’ a month ago – but with my big computer crash, I really got pushed behind on all of my projects! My goal is to have our room ready by the end of May, for my birthday.

What do you think?

I’d love some comments on my Pinterest boards, to help me make some decisions. {I got some great feedback on Facebook from ya’all, with helping me to choose a rug!} And if you have cool DIY idea posts that can help inspire me, be sure to leave the link in a comment below! You guys rock.

Ariel left the ocean, it was too current – Disney Hipster Humor

If Hipsters Ran Disney…

My brother is a bit of a Hipster. He has a beard. Rides a motorcycle. Plays guitar in a band. Wears a lot of black hoodies. Burns his tongue when he drinks coffee, because he has to drink it before it’s cool…. {Hahaha, get it? Lame joke that cracks me up every time.} So a little Hipster-humor always entertains me.

What is a hipster?

You might not know about this breed of cool cat. If so, I totally understand. Kids change so fast these days. My Mister is still confused by the whole “Emo” phase, and calls them Ewoks. {That also cracks me up every time.} According to The Hipster Handbook, “The Hipster walks among the masses in daily life but is not a part of them and shuns or reduces to kitsch anything held dear by the mainstream. A Hipster ideally possesses no more than 2% body fat.” So now you know what a Hipster is. And knowing is half the battle….. :)

Nutrisystem: Wanna See My One-Month Weight-Loss Results?

nutrisystem week 4 results

One Month of Nutrisystem = 5 Pounds Lost!

Dang…. I absolutely HATE seeing myself on a scale – and seeing SUCH a high numbers! Never in my life would I have imagined that I’d weigh this much… But thankfully, I have the support system at Nutrisystem to keep me on track, and keep me motivated towards getting back to a number on the scale that I can be proud to share here with you guys.

My Goals for Nutrisystem

When I first was getting started with Nutrisystem, I took a full set of measurements, from thighs and hips to arms and chest, so that I could track my progress. The number on the scale is important – but my shape is what matters more, since it’s what determines whether I’ll get my booty back into those pre-baby jeans or not. Nutrisystem gives you a great online support system, filled with awesome tracking tools – so that’s where I added in my measurements and starting weight. I wanted to lose at least a pound or two per week, and hopefully see a measurable difference in my curves after the first month….

I Met all of my Weight Loss goals!

Woooo! While I would’ve loved to see a little more weight loss, I’m very happy with 5 pounds in 4 weeks. As long as I keep losing at least a pound a week, I’ll feel like I’m making progress. And – I lost about a half-inch on almost ALL of my measurements – waist, hips, chest, arms, and thighs. That was pretty exciting to see! I’ve been getting more activity in my day, but haven’t been doing any major exercise yet – so these results make me really happy.

What’s Next for me and Nutrisystem

This month, I’d love to really push myself harder to exercise, and lose 10 pounds. I admit to cheating a couple of times last month – and still lost 5 pounds. So, if I can avoid those things that test my willpower – {lunches out with friends, taco night with the kids} – for a few weeks, I know I can do it.

On a weight loss journey too? Check out my Weight Loss Board on Pinterest – It’s super funny, super motivating, and filled with super helpful stuff!

Want to lose weight and get healthy on Nutrisystem?

Heck – you even get to have chocolate cake or ice cream each night for dessert, how great is that? Get started today – it’s the best choice you’ll make this year!
