“Hold on, man. We don’t go anywhere with “scary,” “spooky,” “haunted,” or “forbidden” in the title.” – From Scooby-Doo… I totally relate to this quote! I do not like scary movies, creepy decor, haunted houses {unless they’re the non-scary type for little kids} or anything else like that. But I do love me some Halloween fun!! I just like to keep it on the fun side – slightly spooky, but still… you know, happy. Which is why I am SO excited to share some tips for you to host your own “Pretty-Spooky” Halloween Hangout – we had a blast this past weekend decorating, eating sweet treats, and watching classic Halloween movies. Check it out – and share your fave Halloween party ideas with me in the comments at the end. I love hearing from you ladies.
How to have a “Pretty Spooky” Halloween Hangout Party
You know I love to put on parties, right? For awhile I felt like I was working too much – and even though technically I was spending all day at home with Abby, I wasn’t spending enough real time with her, you know? So we now try to take an hour or two every afternoon for some type of themed activity – like our Little Mermaid Crafty Day, or Monsters U Lunch Date – so this past weekend we decided a fun theme would be to host a Halloween Hangout, since we’d have Abby’s cousins for the day. We were super lucky to have gotten an awesome package of products earlier in the week – Treats from Shari’s Berries, beautiful floral decor from ProFlowers, and some super duper fun personalized Halloween pieces from Personal Creations. I usually like to do a lot of DIY when entertaining, but sometimes it’s actually really nice to be able to order some amazing stuff that’s all ready to go. And everything was so gorgeous – and a lot of it WAS made by hand. Check out the awesomeness….
“There is a child in every one of us who is still a trick-or-treater looking for a brightly-lit front porch.” – Robert Brault
We already have the front yard decorated for Halloween – including lots of twinkling orange lights, a pretend graveyard in the garden filled with tombstones, and some spooky black cats perched atop the fence. This absolutely beautiful fall wreath from ProFlowers is the perfect addition – and is such a pretty way to welcome party-goers to our house all season long. I may weave a strand of tiny solar lights in it for Halloween, to greet trick or treaters. And – it’s hard to tell because it looks so fresh, but this is actually made from dried flowers, so it can be used year after year. LOVE.
Personalized Pumpkins from Personal Creations
We have a whole family of these adorable personalized pumpkins – one for every member of the family! I absolutely love how they incorporated the name like this, and they are another way to make our front porch look festive. They’d also be really cute lined up on a mantle, on a windowsill – or even one in each kiddos room. And they are made super sturdy, so they’re safe for little hands to play with.
Halloween cake pops
Once guests came on in, their mouths started watering right away at the site of all the goodies! First up were these adorable Halloween cake pops – seriously, how cute are these? I love all of the attention to detail. And, they tasted even better than they looked, which is hard to belive, right?
Cake pops are perfect for party favors too!
I love that these cake pops from Sheri’s Berries arrive packaged individually in little plastic bags – if you tied them with a little bit of ribbon or twine, they’d make adorable party favors. They would also be fun to bring to a kiddo’s classroom, or even to give out to trick or treaters. No work on your part except tying a few ribbons. Easy peasy, and you look like you spent all day. {Shhhh, I won’t tell anyone you ordered them online :)}
Halloween BOO-quet
To make our table more festive, we used this insanely cool Halloween floral arrangement from ProFlowers as a focal point. I love decorating with fresh flowers year-round – I love bringing more green and nature into my home, I love the scent of freshly cut blooms in the air, and the bright blossoms just make me smile :) So, I feel like I’m kind of a pro at flowers, you know? But I’ve never seen something as clever as this arrangement – what a unique combination of pretty and spooky, right? The sparkly bat makes it festive {and can be reused later}, the beautiful tulips and lilys are so bright and happy, but then the black thistles bring in some darkness to even it out.
You know what else is amazing?
That these flowers were shipped. And this picture wasn’t even taken the first day. Nope, it was taken four.days.later. Whaaaa? I know. They arrive with their stems exposed, no water, beads, foam, nada. I’d never ordered with ProFlowers before, so at first I’m thinking – no way are these babies gonna last more than a day. But they send some special “magic potion” powder to pour in the water after you cut an inch off the stems, and instruct you to leave the outer plastic wrap on for about an hour. Why? Who knows. But it’s clearly magic, because if you follow the steps, you’ll have crazy-fresh flowers for a very long time – even though they’ve been through shipping in a box! I’ll only order through them from now on, guaranteed.
Nutter Butter Ghosts – OhmyYUM!
Ok, back to the rest of the treats on the table. Because really, treats are what Halloween is all about, right? These are also from Sheri’s Berries – they’re Nutter Butter cookies coated to look like adorably spooky ghosts. I’m telling you – as you unwrap them to remove them from the box {everything from Sheri’s Berries is packed with such care and attention to detail, to ensure they arrive in perfect condition} – right away you notice the deliciousness of the scent in the air. And man oh man, they are goooood. {Can you believe I’ve NEVER had a Nutter Butter before? I have been missing a major part of life here, oh man.}
Hand-painted personalized plates
Did you notice the plate under those cookies? With my last name on it? That’s also from Personal Creations – how fun is this? It’s so pretty in real life, pictures don’t even do it justice. And the kids think it is SO cool to see our name on it! This will definitely be an heirloom item.

Now – I’ve totally left the best for last. When I unwrapped the goodies that Sherri’s Berries had sent over for us to share with the fam, I kept hoping I’d come across some of these gourmet dipped strawberries. I’ve had them fresh at a couple of conferences in the past year, and they were one of the most delicious things I’d ever tasted in my life – no lie. When I opened the box with these inside, I was jumping and dancing like a little kid on Christmas morning. But then a cloud of doubt hovered over me…. Would they be as good as I’d had before? After all, they’d been prepared, boxed, shipped, and then opened up in my kitchen. So I decided not to wait for our party – I had to try one that minute. I bit into it… It was the silky outer coating I remembered… Followed by the juiciest, freshest, most flavor-filled strawberries ever. I am so glad to know they are just as good shipped, and this is going on my list for Christmas gifts, for sure.
