How I Fell in Love with Moon Dough…

Moon Dough Ocean Pals

“Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity.” – Kay Redfield Jamison

We love creative stuff here at our house… We like to paint, and color, and build, and create. But when we’re in the mood for some molding fun, I usually mix up our own homemade play dough – The Best Homemade Play-Dough Recipe. The kids had asked for Moon Dough, but honestly, I figured, “how much different could it be then the stuff we make now?” So when Team Mom asked if I wanted to review the new Moon Dough Ocean Pals, to try out the new and improved Moon Dough formula, I figured we’d give it a shot.

Moon Dough Ocean Pals Play set

“Play is the beginning of knowledge.” – Anonymous

The Moon Dough Ocean Pals set arrived, and the kids were SUPER excited to rip it open! I made them slow it down, so I could check this out too. The Play Set comes with a bunch of cool stuff:

  • A cute ocean themed reusable play mat to encourage imagination.
  • 3 different easy-to-use Push & Pop tools.
  • 1 fun twisty mold.
  • 2 different Moon Dough color options to play with.

I laid out all of the great goodies that were included in this fun package, and opened up the first package of Moon Dough to try it out. What at first feels like a piece of smooth Styrofoam quickly turns to a squishy marshmallow-like texture in your hands. I really can’t hardly describe it, but it’s super cool! I’m pretty proud of our awesome homemade dough, but this stuff is so different – Even the teenagers at our house were impressed! The tools included in the set are simple, but perfectly made – the kids were able to easily make really cool shapes, and had a blast with this set!

“Play builds the kind of free-and-easy, try-it-out, do-it-yourself character that our future needs.” – James L. Hymes Jr.

Moon Dough is hypo-allergenic, and wheat-free, making it a great option for any family with allergies. I was skeptical of the whole “never drys out” claim, but so far so good! The kids have left the lid off of plastic container we store it in for days at a time, and it’s just as good as new. So – I started out really skeptical, but the Moon Dough sets have totally won me over – I even bought another one for the kiddo’s for Christmas. The best part? It’s super easy to clean up too!

Busy Mom Solution: Tricycoo is Stylish, Affordable, and Fun!

Tricycoo from Joovy

This is what happiness looks like…

As moms, we always want to find the best and brightest products for our children – from healthy snacks, to the coolest toys – we want them to have the best. But sometimes we settle for lower quality in toys and gear due to tight budgets. Well, I have found a new “Busy Mom Solution” product to solve this problem – The Tricycoo from Joovy is made by a family owned company, with factories right here in the US. Like all Joovy gear, it’s made from only the best quality components – plus they offer the greatest customer care and support you’ll find. And best of all – this is one of those rare toys that can really grow with your child. Not only does it have awesome features that adjust to your growing child’s needs, but it’s such great quality that it will actually LAST long enough to make it through several stages! It’s hard to find well-built quality kids toys these days at affordable prices – but you’ll find some amazing choices on Joovy.com!

Bell on Joovy Scooter

“Kids: they dance before they learn there is anything that isn’t music.” – William Stafford

Every detail has been thought of on the Tricycoo – and they are so much fun! This little bell on the handlebars delights Abby so much – she laughs and claps every time she gets it to ring! And it has a great retro type of sound – it reminds me of riding my bike around the neighborhood when I was a little girl.

Joovy Tricycoo

“PLAY GIVES CHILDREN A CHANCE TO PRACTICE WHAT THEY ARE LEARNING.”- FRED ROGERS

Another super great feature of the Tricycoo is the fun basket in the back – perfect to carry a mid-size diaper bag when we go on walks or on a trip to the park. And when we use the Joovy inside, Abby loves to fill the basket up with her “babies” – a random assortment of stuffed cats, dogs, or maybe even reindeer! It’s not big enough to be bulky or in the way – but definitely big enough to store all of your stuff. Super helpful.

“THAT’S THE REAL TROUBLE WITH THE WORLD, TOO MANY PEOPLE GROW UP.” – WALT DISNEY

Kids never stay the same size for more than a few minutes – Everyone said that it would go by so quickly, and you know that it’s true. But you don’t really know it until you watch it happen to your own little one! It can be hard on a momma to realize they’re not a baby anymore – and sometimes it’s hard on the wallet to keep up with buying new toys and new gear for those fast-growing kiddo’s! That is what I love most about the Tricycoo – it’s meant as a beginner tricycle for kids as young as 18 months, {although Abby got hers last month at 16 months, and she fits perfectly!} – and it totally adjusts through each stage to fit your child as they grow. In the beginning, there are While your child is a beginner, there are “baby surround arms” to keep them safe while they learn balance. There is a little footrest that works perfectly while they get used to riding on it. As they grow, they can first use the pedals “unlocked”, so that they spin freely – then “lock” them and they can use their own push-power and ride like a big kid! While they’re learning, you get to control the bike by pushing and steering with the Parent Push Handle – It is SO cool that I can steer her around while we go on walks – Love this feature.

Richard Scarry’s Busytown Playsets Bring my Childhood Favorites to Life! {Giveaway}

Busytown Kids Toys set

“That’s the real trouble with the world, too many people grow up.” – WALT DISNEY

Do you remember Busytown? – The Richard Scarry books were some of my absolute, hands down, total favorites when I was a little girl. I loved being able to explore all of the pages filled with busy little characters in busy little vehicles, buzzing around their busy little town. Abby and I love to read Richard Scarry’s Busy, Busy Town, so when I learned about the new toy sets, I was in total excitement to check them out. And I was NOT disappointed – these toys do a wonderful job of bringing those favorite storybooks to life! They capture the great things about the books – exploring and imagining. With so many cool details on each playset, kids can drive around the towns they’ve seen in their books, and go in and learn more about the shops and sites they’ve read about. It’s just all incredibly cool.

Richard Scarry's Busytown playset

“Nothing you do for a child is ever wasted.” – GARRISON KEILLOR

My favorite character from the Busytown books was the little worm in his apple car – so it was super fun to see him as a part of one of these sets!! Abby loooves to drive him around…. “Vrrrmmmmmm.” These sets are some of my absolute favorite toys that we have!

I had at first assumed the track would be made of wood, but it’s actually plastic. And I like it way better than I had at first thought that I would! The pieces are really light and easy for little hands to put together – but still sturdy enough to be durable when played with by tiny toddlers! Abby is only 15 months old, and as her 5 year old cousin constantly tells me while trying to share these toys with her – “She doesn’t know how to play right!” That means she likes to sit on the track, smack the cars into the roofs of the houses, and just generally wreck havoc on the whole Busytown community :) She smiles and giggles, and I can smile after seeing that these pieces seem to be super unbreakable! Seriously – they are really good quality – love it.

The sets are all incredibly fun on their own – but even cooler when you have a few to combine together! These are the play sets that we were lucky enough to get to try out:

  • Richard Scarry’s Busytown Roadway Starter Playset – This is the cute little set with Lowly Worm and his Apple Car! It comes with enough pieces to build an oval track {or combine them with other sets to extend the roadways} – plus a bookstore, traffic sign and signal.
  • Richard Scarry’s Busytown Fire Station Playset – The fire station includes more track, a fire station and truck, as well as an adorable little Fireman Pig! Our favorite part is that you can put the fire truck inside of the station, and with the push of a little button – it launches the fire truck out through the doors and onto the track! Abby thinks this is hilarious!!
  • Richard Scarry’s Busytown Town Hall Deluxe Playset with DVD – This is a total must-have if you’re fans of Richard Scarry! It includes so many fun pieces, as you can see above – plus the DVD is really fun for kids, so that they can watch the characters come to life on the screen! All of the details are really well done, it all is such great quality, and it really is so much fun to play with. {Yes, I have fun playing with it too :)}

Busy Mom Solution: The Boba Pack! {Giveaway}

Boba Pack

“A suburban mother’s role is to deliver children obstetrically once, and by car for ever after.” – Peter De Vries

The Busy Mom Challenge: You’ve been through a ton of different bags – from diaper bags, to sports bags, to tote bags. Maybe you even try to carry a purse with you too. You need just one bag that can handle it all – diapers and wipes, bottle or sippy cup, snacks, toys, and the other 100 “must-have” items that you need just to take a run to the store with a baby. You need that bag to “play well with others” too, meaning the stroller or baby carrier. And – it wouldn’t hurt if this do-it-all bag could look good too. Well, you’re in luck! I’ve found the MOST helpful diaper bag around, and it’s super stylish. Check out the Boba Pack!

Boba Pack

“A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take.” – Cardinal Mermillod

The Busy Mom Solution: The Boba Pack is a total problem solver! It was designed with busy babywearing families in mind, and has a ton of great features. Here are some of the reasons why I call this pack a Busy Mom Solution:

  • You can wear it so many ways – it’s super versatile! Use the strap to wear it over the shoulder, or as a messenger bag. It also attaches easily to any stroller. Or – this is so cool! – it can also easily attach to almost any baby carrier using the adjustable straps on the sides of the Boba Pack. That way, you can travel totally hands-free!
  • It’s 100% cotton, easy to clean, and totally gorgeous. It is available in 5 different color combo’s that coordinate with the Boba Carrier 3G!
  • It has a lifetime guarantee – amazing, right?!
  • It has a ton of perfect pockets – but it isn’t bulky at all. That’s great for anyone – and especially if you plan to attach it to the baby carrier. Check out the pocket features…

Inside pockets of the Boba Pack

“There is no way to be a perfect mother, and a million ways to be a good one” – Jill Churchill

A photo can’t even do this justice – you’ve got to see one of these amazing packs yourself – but let me try to describe how super helpful it is. The Boba Pack has 10 separate pockets, including an insulated bottle holder, that’s also big enough for a sippy cup. I absolutely love this! They also included a matching wet bag, for messy clothes and accessories, which is so great. All diaper bags have a lot of pockets, but not all of them are really what you need. On the Boba Pack, every pocket is perfectly placed – they definitely had a moms input when they designed this bag! {Another great solution product? The Bella Tunno Solution Sack that you see inside my Boba Pack – these are only a few bucks, and total life savers!}

Boba designs thoughtfully crafted products for active parents who want the time and freedom to create a real and caring bond with their child, while living life to the fullest.

Frugal DIY Fun: Toddler Exploring Set

Craft Supplies

“Kids: they dance before they learn there is anything that isn’t music.” – William Stafford

I’m a crafty girl – I love glitter and rhinestones, Mod Podge and Tacky Glue, pretty papers and ribbons…. and I have so much fun sharing my love of all things creative with the kiddo’s in my life. And, crafting with kids has helped me see new things – kids are so fascinated with new textures, shapes, sounds, and colors. That led to the creation of our Toddler Exploring Set – a super easy DIY idea, made from totally inexpensive materials. Even if you’re not usually much of a DIY’er, you can do this. So… Let’s get started! {You might remember me mentioning these Exploring Sets earlier this year in 65 Fun Fall Ideas for Kids – we love making new sets!}

Shaker Bottles

“Having a two-year-old is like having a blender that you don’t have the top for.” – Jerry Seinfeld

You probably already have most of the supplies you’ll need – But one thing that you will need to get in advance is a set of empty water bottles. We used the mini ones – they’re easiest for tiny toddler hands. You’ll also need a good glue {I used Quick Dry Tacky Glue}, so that you can glue each bottle closed. You also might want to get a small shoe box, or cute basket, for your little one to carry their new Exploring Set around in – they love that. Now – the fun part! Read through the list and find some fun ideas to try. All of the bottles are really simple to make, and will totally delight your little one. Enjoy!

“There are no seven wonders of the world in the eyes of a child. There are seven million.” – Walt Streightiff

  • Sound Bottles: In the Red bottle above, I used white beans mixed with some fun red glitter – these are nice and noisy when you shake ’em! You can also use things like rice, popcorn kernels, or jingle bells. Kids love discovering the different sounds.
  • Bubble Bottles: Fill half full of water, add a little bit of dish soap, and a squirt or two of food coloring. Your little one will love seeing a plain bottle of water turn into a bubble party when they shake it up!
  • Discovery Bottle: Fill a bottle half way with sand or rice, and add a few tiny toys too. Kids will learn that the toys are there even when they can’t see them – and will love learning how to find them again!
  • Glow Bottle: Fill a bottle with glow in the dark stickers or glow sticks. Show your kiddo how different it looks when they crawl underneath their blanket – what a surprise!
  • Silly Bottle: One of our favorites is to fill a bottle up with little Glitter Pom Poms – these are the cutest thing, and Abby loves them! They look super cute in the bottles, and have such bright and vibrant colors!
  • Snow Globe Bottles: Fill bottles with a mixture of water and glycerin, add food coloring if desired, throw in a pinch {or more, you can never have too much!} of glitter, and add some fun little toys or trees. So much fun!
  • Slow-Down Bottle: Fill a bottle 2/3 full of clear corn syrup, then add sequins, or tiny toys. As they tilt the bottle, they can relax and slow down while they watch the toys sloooowly slide to the side.
  • Nature Bottle: These ones are more temporary – grab a tiny branch off of an evergreen tree, some fall leaves, dandelion flowers, acorns – whatever is in season. Your little one will delight in getting to really look at these things up close – you’ll delight in knowing that they won’t EAT them while they have them up close!

Big Kid Options

  • Magnet Bottle: Fill a bottle with rice or sand, and add a few metallic items, like pennies, old game pieces, etc. Then – let them use a big magnet against the outside of the bottle to ‘magically’ pull those hidden items into view!
  • Guessing Bottle: Fill a bottle up with tiny pebbles – or something fun like Jelly Beans! – and have your kids guess how many are inside. Don’t glue the top on this one, since you’ll then want to dump it out, count it together, and see how close they were. Our boys love to challenge each other.

Do you have any fun ideas to add?

There are so many different variations you can use – and I’d love to hear your creative ideas! We love to make new bottles all the time, and sometimes it’s hard to keep coming up with great ideas – so I look forward to what you guys come up with. Keep it crafty!

Busy Mom Solution: Surface Shine Spray!

Surface Bassu Shine Spray

I was sent a bottle of this Surface Shine Spray a few weeks ago to review. It’s a brand that I’m not familiar with, but I figured it’d probably be a nice product, work about the same as other shine sprays – I’m kind of addicted to shine spray, but most of them are pretty much the same.

All SURFACE hair products contain Vitamins A, C & E, organic and 100% vegan protein. The ingredients are gluten, sulfate and paraben-free.

Um – This little bottle knocked my socks off! I love that it’s a more natural product, since I’m trying to cut some of the yucky-junky chemicals out of my life. And I LOVE the shine it adds to my hair – it’s really light so it doesn’t make my hair flat. It’s not greasy or weird feeling on my hair. And here is my FA-VO-RITE part – It smells amazing! It smells almost exactly like the Sun Ripened Raspberry Body Spray from Bath & Body works – which has been one of my favorites since I was in high school. And the scent lasts all day – I get SO many compliments!

Busy Mom Solution: One great product the whole family can use!

Well, dad may or may not want to smell like raspberries, lol. But this spray is a great detangler for kids hair, since it’s filled with natural ingredients. And it’s so versatile – use it on the kids or your own damp hair as a detangler. Use it before heat styling for a deep shine treatment. Or spray it on your finished look to detail it and add a gorgeous gloss! You will love this – I’m so serious. If you’re a busy momma like me, it’s such a great product to quickly polish and freshen up messy-crazy-mom hair!

Find a local salon to purchase SURFACE hair care, or find Surface Bassu Shine Spray on Amazon.

We don’t have any salons within 50 darn miles that carry this spray – so I’ll have to order it online. But you can betcha that I’ll be recommending it to my stylist at my next appointment – this stuff rocks!

{Disclaimer: I received a complimentary bottle of SURFACE Bassu Shine Spray to review, made possible by Mom Spark Media – but all opinions and over-use of exclamation points is totally and 100% my own!}
