How to Raise a Fancy Cat

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group®, Litter Genie® and Fancy Feast®, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #Catparents http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV.

When I used to work in retail, the younger girls made fun of me. They said that because I was near 30, no kids yet, not married, and owned a stray cat I’d adopted, that I’d end up being an old crazy cat lady. This was at The Buckle, where they make a sort of “account” for you when you shop. So that later, when you come back, we can tell you exactly what size and style of jeans you bought last time, that sort of thing. Well, a year after I stopped working there, and was shopping, and my friends weren’t there anymore, the person ringing me up started laughing. He didn’t want to tell me, so I looked at the screen, and under my name, for info, it said, “Crazy cat lady.” Well played my friends, well played <3

At the time, it seemed a likely future for me. But then that stray cat was lost, I moved, I had a baby, and bought a house. Getting out of crazy cat lady territory. And then….  this last Christmas eve, my Mister brought home a surprise kitten for Abby’s Christmas present, and I became a cat lady once again….

That’s Tiger Lily, Abby’s new best friend. You can see a bit of their love right here….

They are seriously the best of friends. But, when the Mister brought her home, I was worried. He’d brought home a black lab puppy as a surprise last summer. And that didn’t work out well. He was cute, I’ll give him that. But…. He tore up the yard, ate the greenhouse, dug up all of my plants in the garden, and pretty much ate all of our outdoor decor. So I was worried a new kitty would be nothing but trouble too. I didn’t want a stinky litter box smelling up the bedroom, a cat scratching up the new furniture, or any other major messes to deal with…. But man, she WAS cute. And I’m a sucker for cute.

So to prep for a new kitty, I recently headed to Target. Where else do you go to find super cute, affordable, but awesome home stuff, right? And right now, Target has a sweet deal on cat gear – Buy any TWO (2) Fancy Feast® – 24 packs OR Litter Genie® Pail/Refill, and get a free Cat Toy or Friskies party mix cat treat. Offer available 2/15/15 – 4/11/15. {While supplies last, of course.} So, to give my new kitty a better, more trendy home, this is where I went to shop. Want to see what I bought?

I bought all the things. A Litter Genie, which is similar to the Diaper Genie, if you’ve used those. Refills for it, the Litter Genie wipes to keep things clean, some Fancy Feast food for my fancy little furball, and a free laser cat toy, because of my purchase. Awesome, right?

Litter Genie for cats from Target

The Litter Genie seriously rocks. It comes with a set of the bags you put inside, a guide with tips, some coupons, a scoop, and what I like to call the scoop “holster.” It all snaps together super easy, in less than 5 minutes. And, once it’s done, you just have to “scoop the poop” – {I love how that rhymes, lol} – then dump it into the Litter Genie, pull out the little lever thing in the front, and it traps the stinky litter in the bag – keeping the stinky out of your house. Awesome, right?

DIY kitty food dish

I also bought a new dish for our kitty, since she’d just been eating and drinking out of some old toddler bowls. But because she’s a fancy girl, I wanted to fancy it up a bit. Which was super simple, using some Sharpie markers! I just wrote her name, added a few dots, hearts, and swirls, and voila! She has a pretty place to eat her new favorite meals…..

Kitty with her Fancy Feast

Yep, fancy cats love Fancy Feast! We’ve only had her for a couple of months, and until now, she’d only had dry food. But man oh man – I should have bought this sooner! She is in LOVE with Fancy Feast! I bought two boxes of different varieties, and she will chow down on any of them. I totally can’t recommend them enough :)

  1. I have 3 indoor only kitties. The biggest piece of advice I can give you is cat scratchers. Yes, they can be expensive, but they are worth it. Cats are pretty smart and ours automatically gravitate towards the scratchers. If they start scratching on furniture, make sure to put a scratcher in front of the spot they were scratching and they will go to the scratcher instead of the furniture.

  2. Your kitty’s new dish is super cute! What a great DIY idea.
