Monsters University just hit U.S. theaters nearly 12 years after the original “Monsters, Inc.” theatrical debut… Have you seen it yet? I am craaaazy-excited to take the kids to see Monsters U this week! We are such big fans of the original Monsters Inc. movie – {I sometimes have a hard time finding cartoons with a really good message to them, but this one rocks} – so obviously as soon as I heard the news that there would be a new Monsters movie I was stoked. Then I read the review of Monsters University from Sippy Cup Mom, and got even more excited.
Monsters University Movie Party Ideas – #MUJuice
I have a little girl who will be 3 in late July. I also have two wild nephews {5 and 9} who are with me every morning before and after school – and all day during the summer months. I also have a super bestie-friend who comes over often, and her little man is about the same age as the boys. Her and I have been planning for months to take the whole pile of kids to see Monsters University in theaters this coming week – So to ramp up the excitement a few more notches, and just make a regular weekday lunch a little more fun, we planned a super monster-ific party for the kids this past week. It was simple and super affordable, since I was able to pick up EVERYTHING that I need at Walmart.
Step One: Pick up some fun Monsters University Gear at Walmart
There are a TON of fun Monsters University themed products at Walmart right now, and I picked up a few extra goodies to make some Mike and Sulley accessories too. {If you want to see all of the seriously amazing Monsters University gear at Walmart right now, and sneak peeks into some of the product and packaging, check out my shopping trip on Google+.} I found everything imaginable – Monsters-themed Pull-Ups {and this set had an awesome set of Monsters U potty training supplies too!}, coloring books, toys, lunch supplies like Monsters U mac n cheese and Juicy Juice, cookies for treats, and super cheap plastic drinkware and simple craft supplies so that the kids could make their own Mike and Sully dishes.
Mike Wazowski Crafts and Snacks
For the Mike Wazowski goodies, I picked up these fun juice cups for a buck a piece, a couple of foam sheets, and some googly eyes. We helped the kids cut out mouths and teeth from the foam, and used tacky glue to stick them on the cup lids – along with a big ol’ googly eye. I filled them Nestle Juicy Juice, and the kids totally loved them! {Notice how the handle is also a straw? Abby thought this was the coolest thing ever, lol.} So, for about a $1.50 each, the kids had their very own Monsters U juice cups!
Sulley Crafts and Snacks
Next we used more of the foam sheets to cut horns to add to our blue plastic cups, partnered that with more googly eyes, and had our very own Sully cups! I put a package of Monsters U fruit snacks in the bottom of each one, then topped ’em with a handful of the super cute Monsters U sugar cookies we picked up at Walmart. We’d already used our purple vinyl scraps I had at home to decorate our Monster Mac n Cheese bowls, or I would’ve added that too :)
Monsters University freebies and promos at Walmart
And – I totally want to give you guys a heads up about all of the super fun freebies and promos you’ll find at Walmart right now. You know I’m all about saving a buck whenever possible, right? So I get a kick out of smart shopping, and am always looking for new ways to creatively stretch my budget. I found a TON of cool things during this trip! Check ’em out:
- Kraft Macaroni and Cheese: Craft has the Monsters themed boxes of mac right now – and the back of the packages have these fun Monsters cards you can cut out. One features Mike Wazowski, the other can be filled out however you want. Abby used this as her library card all afternoon, and “checked out” books from the toy room. Love it.
- Juicy Juice: All of the Monsters U themed Juicy Juice packages have Instant Win tickets on them. Which doesn’t mean a chance to win – it means every pack you buy, you win something! We won 2 posters and a free Disney ebook. How cool is that? Definitely going to stock up on more!
- Bakery Goodies: There were a few cool promos in the bakery department – we got to sample some Monsters University cookies, there was this display to get your own personalized Monsters U cake made, or get a sweet deal on their big cupcake packs. {Yes, that pun was intended :)}
- Pull-Ups: We were already a BIG fan of the Monsters-themed Pull-Ups – but I was extra excited to find this special purchase package. It comes with a bunch of cool potty training freebies – stickers, flushable wipes, coupon book, code for Snapfish to create a free photo poster collage, and more.
Seriously, keep your eyes peeled all through the store for cool Monsters gear to pick up. I spent just a little bit of cash, but the kids definitely had an afternoon to remember!
Monster size fun!
“Screaming with laughter and oozing with heart, Disney•Pixar’s “Monsters University” is directed by Dan Scanlon (“Cars,” “Mater and the Ghostlight,” “Tracy”), produced by Kori Rae (“Up,” “The Incredibles,” “Monsters, Inc.”) and features music from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and award-winning composer Randy Newman (“Monsters, Inc.,” “Toy Story 3”). The film opened up in U.S. theaters on June 21, 2013, and will be shown in 3D in select theaters.” Stop by your local Walmart this week to stock up on a few inexpensive supplies of your own, make a fun lunch and snacks – and hit the closest theater {and uh-may-zing AC!} to see this yourself this week, if you haven’t already!

We Love Monsters
Boo might not be in the new Monsters University movie – but she is a big part of our days! Abby absolutely loves her little Boo dolly, and after our big afternoon lunch-playdate-party, she fell fast asleep at naptime with her little baby Boo :) I love being able to put in a bit of effort and make special memories during every day moments like we did this day… A few bucks, some special snacks, snag some freebies, and end up with perfectly happy kiddos. Priceless….

Loved it! We saw it at an advance screening and it so rocked!! We liked it even more than the first one!
We love Monsters Inc around here, too! I can’t wait to see the movie, and neither can my kids. I’m definitely going to have to hit up Walmart for some of those great Monster U products!
I’m so glad you liked my review! This is the most amazing party ever – I absolutely love the cups! Your nephew looks so excited and your daughter looks so precious with Boo.
I want to make my own juice cup too. Those are completely adorable! Actually, everything is!
Holy cow that’s a lot of Monsters Inc stuff! That’s enough for a HUGE party. Looks like she had fun!
We saw the Monsters U cookies at Kroger just a few hours ago today. Of course, I picked them right up. My son wasn’t with me, so I put them back. I would have eaten the whole container by myself and I exercised already today. I am sure we will consume a pack before this is all over. I LOVE Monsters. I’m not gonna be able to stop myself from getting all of this cool stuff.
