Angry Birds is such a hit with kids these days, that I hate to even admit this, but…. I have NEVER played the game. At all. Ever. We own a bunch of Angry Birds “stuff” – board games, stuffed plush, video games, and tee shirts. But I’ve never even played this game that everyone seems to find so amazing. But, even though I’m clearly current trend challenged, I do know that the kids love Angry Birds, and thought that making a fun themed breakfast one morning before school would be a ton of fun. Check it out..
Angry Birds Waffle Recipe
Ok – this is an amazingly simple recipe, that can be customized to whatever you have on hand. I actually think this would be even more adorable if you used Eggo Waffle minis with Canadian bacon – but I used ham and Homestyle Eggo’s, because that’s what we on hand this weekend. Here are the super duper easy peasy steps that we took to create these cute Angry Bird Waffles:
- Toast ’em: Grab your favorite Eggo waffles and place a couple of them in the toaster. Toast them until you’re happy with them – anywhere from barely warmed to almost burnt will work just fine :) So toast ’em to your own idea of perfection. {There is no wrong here, people!}
- Top ’em: Use your fave breakfast meat to top the Eggo waffles – we used ham. If it comes in a circle shape, all the easier. If not, first cut your breakfast meat into a circle shape, then carve a little wide-v shaped cut out of the bottom, for the birds face. Place on top of the waffle.
- Decorate ’em: After that, just add a couple of string cheese slices for eyes, olive slices for eyeballs and eye brows, and a cheddar cheese beak.
Eat and enjoy! Add some syrup for dipping, or use cream cheese to hold the pieces of the Angry Bird together. Either way – the combo of waffle, sweet cheese, or maple goodness will totally make your morning brighter!
