Bacon Jalapeno Stuffed Poppers Recipe – Awesome Appetizer Recipe

“When you’re in my house you shall do as I do and believe who I believe in. So Bart, butter your bacon.” – Homer Simpson…. Ok ladies. If you’ve read this site often, you know that I have far more enthusiasm in the kitchen than I do skills. Which means that all of my awesome cooking and baking ideas don’t always work out as planned. {Doesn’t keep me from trying though, lol.}

How to make Bacon Jalapeno Stuffed Poppers
Some of my favorite recipes include chicken and bacon – my two favorite meats to cook with. Well, lately we’re really trying to make a big shift to healthy eating, and adding more veggies is a BIG goal of mine. So when Mike came up with this sweet idea to stuff jalapeno peppers with cream cheese, wrap ’em in delicious bacon, and sprinkle ’em with some brown sugar to melt into a glaze… Well, all I could say is “OhMyHeck. Amazingsauce. Let’s do this.” I mean, it includes a veggie, so it’s healthy, right?

De-seed jalapenos to make poppersStep 1: Cut and de-seed your jalapeno peppers – This is a relatively simple step, but you do need to do it carefully. {Need tips on how to de-seed a jalapeno pepper? Watch the video – super easy.} Just remember – do this carefully, and do NOT let little ones help with this. The oils inside the peppers can totally burn – especially if you accidentally squirt or rub some into your eye! Yikes.

Stuff jalapenos with cream cheeseStep 2: Fill the jalapeno peppers with cream cheese – This is pretty simple too. There are a few different ways that you can do this – We used my Wilton cake decorating disposable bags, with a basic round tip, to pipe the cream cheese into the peppers. If you don’t have those on hand, you can also simply use a sturdy freezer-style Ziploc baggie with the corner tip cut off – this also works great. We used low-fat cream cheese to make these a little healthier – feel free to use whatever kind you prefer.

Wrapping peppers with baconStep 3: Wrap your cream cheese-filled jalapeno poppers with bacon – Yep, now we’re talkin’! Everything is better with bacon, am I right? So, for this step, you use a full package of bacon, cutting each piece in half to fit the peppers. You simply wrap a piece around each popper, and pin with a toothpick to hold them secure. Place each rolled up popper onto a baking pan, or if you’re taking them to a party, use a great disposable baking pan like Handi-Foil, so you don’t have to remember to bring a dish home with you. While you’re doing this, pre-heat your oven to 400 degrees, so you’re ready to pop those poppers in there soon.

Sprinkle jalapeno poppers with brown sugarStep 4: Sprinkle your jalapeno poppers with brown sugar – This is seriously the most amazing part – sprinkle some brown sugar over the poppers, once you have them all filled and rolled in bacon. The amount is up to you – but you can see in the photo, we just grabbed a handful and sprinkled it on lightly. Once these bake up in the oven, the juices of the bacon and the brown sugar kind of melt into a glaze… It’s SO good. Crazy good.

How to bake jalapeno poppersStep 5: Bake up your jalapeno poppers – Now it’s time put your pan {or multiple pans, if you’re cooking for a party} in the oven, middle rack, and bake for about 20 minutes. The timing is kind of up to you, depending on how well-done you like your bacon. But start checking at around 20 minutes for doneness. Once the bacon is cooked to the way you like it, take ’em out and let them cool just a bit. You can serve right away, or refrigerate overnight until ready to serve. I’m not sure how they hold up to being stored any longer than overnight – ours haven’t ever made it that long yet, lol.

And there you are – Super delicious Bacon & Jalapeno Stupped Poppers. Easy to make, and even easier to eat. This makes an awesome appetizer anytime of year, and seriously has been a MAJOR hit at every party and event we’ve brought it to! Make sure to pin it to save it for later :)
