Leaping Into Life in 2012…

“I have found that if you love life, life will love you back.” – Arthur Rubinstein

2012 is my year to be adventurous – I am a completely different person than I was 3 years ago. Three years ago I was working long hours in Retail Management and Fashion Merchandising. I worked hard, played hard, and was happy living on my own and by my own rules. Yep, wild and free, like a coyote {lol} – I really had no one to answer to, so if girlfriends called me to meet for drinks in an hour, I was in. A last-minute weekend trip out of town? Of course! Good times….

Fast forward to today

In November of 2010 I found out that I was going to have a baby. Woah. The news totally stopped me in my tracks – I had never planned to start a family, and was completely unprepared for such a life changing event. But – over the course of a year and a half, and lots of big changes in the lives of the rest of my family – I now have a full house of extended family, I work from home and love it, and have a beautiful little girl who is the sunshine of my life. I’ve learned that the unexpected can sometimes be exactly what you need. So – This year I am embracing change, searching for adventure, and leaping into my new life in 2012.

How I Picture Myself in 2012

  • Travel – I’ve only left the state I live in 4 times total in my whole darn life. Crazy, right? But already this year I have a trip planned to Reviewer’s Retreat {and I’ll be speaking there too!} in North Carolina, a trip to NYC for BlogHer, and we’re going to head to Vegas for Bloggy Boot Camp too. Add in a small weekend trip to the Oregon Coast, and this should be an exciting year of seeing new places!
  • Learn new skills – I’ve never learned to drive. Yep, I’m 31 years old, and don’t know how to handle myself behind the wheel! It’s a long story – but I’ve just started practicing, and I WILL get my license this year!
  • Say Yes More Often – Most women have trouble saying no. I have more trouble sometimes saying yes! Since I’ve become a mom, I often feel guilty going out to do things without my little girl. I’m nervous leaving her with a sitter. But this year I plan to say YES so much more – and stop missing out on all of the fun!

What are YOUR plans for 2012?

I don’t like New Years Resolutions. Instead of pledging to lose that same old 10 pounds again this year, why not set fun goals and make exciting plans to motivate yourself? 1. These are great goals! You should make a trip to Canada too! I need to say yes more too when people ask me to do things. I’m such a homebody lol.

  2. I didn’t learn to drive until I was 23, but I still refuse to drive on the highway. I also can’t parallel park, or back out of diagonal parking spaces. I’m 36, lol! So while I may be slightly ahead of you on the whole actually getting behind the wheel thing, I totally get the limitations involved and you’ll probably be a more adventurous driver than me within the next year. Good luck on all your goals!

  3. Those are some great goals! Everyone deserves to travel more so I am glad you will be leaving your state for the 5th, 6th and 7th time! Get that license before you leave so you can explore the new areas you are traveling to! All the best in 2012!

  4. Fabulous goals for 2012! I love the idea of learning to say ‘yes’ more!

Great goals :) 2012 is going to be an amazing year for me, I’m gonna be a Mommy again!!! This time to a little boy, it’s going to be chaotic with a newborn boy and a 16mth old little girl… Also we are looking at moving into a new house. My main goal this year is to try to steer clear of being overwhelmed, and stay patient with everything going on, which I know will be a challenge onto itself.

Good luck with your goals Meagan.

  6. Great goals!! My goal for this year is to get my license too! I thought I was the only one left who didn’t have it (I’m 27)! Now I know I’m not alone. :)

  7. its hard saying yes to yourself when you have a little one that needs you so much… I completely feel you on that.

  8. such awesome goals! I need to start saying yes more :)

  9. Great goals!!! I find I say yes too much..trying to put limits on how far I stretch myself. I am trying to lose those 10 lbs lol but for good this time but more to feel good! A new year is all about feel good changes!

  10. Starting tomorrow Feb. 1st 2012 I will be training for my first ever 5K on May 12th 2012. My 30 year old butt is totally out of shape. This reachable goal will help me to get out of the house more, breath the air that is outside of my four walls, go from being totally UNactive to ACTIVE, and help out a wonderful organization that is benefiting from those participating in the race. It is going to be a HUGE challenge for me, but I think I’m worth it.

BTW every time I read your blog I find more and more things that we have in common than the last time I read. Love that.
