12 Must-Have Tools for Successful Blogging

Welcome to the #WAHMhop event! I’ve partnered with a bunch of my favorite bloggers to share tips and tricks to help anyone out there who’s interested in starting their own business, or making money from home, get a jump start to success!

So, I’m not an expert, but I’ve been blogging for over 4 years, and have been pretty successful. So, I want to share my tips with you guys, in the hopes they may help you too!

1. Business Plan: Every business must have a plan. Because if you don’t know where you want to be, how will you know how to get there? I have seen many friends start small businesses, of many kinds, that failed. Not because they didn’t have amazing ideas, talent, or work ethic – but because they didn’t have a plan. There’s a great article I refer to each year from Problogger – How to Make a Blogging Business Plan. It has some great questions to consider. Myself personally, here’s what I do: Answer these questions, each year, because your focus does sometimes change. Think about where you want to be in a year. Make 3 big goals. Then break those down into one goal per month. Then each month I write down 3 steps to reach that goal. It makes it all more doable, helps you focus your energy and time, and keeps you on track. 10 Most Popular Posts on Boosting Your Blog

At the start of a new year, I like to take some time to evaluate how things are going in my life – business, and personal. I use the whole month of January to look at what worked – so I can add more of that, and what didn’t – so I can make changes. When it comes to business, one thing I like to do is really take a deep look at my statistics, and use that to help create a solid game plan for the upcoming year. Part of that is looking at Google Analytics to see which posts were the most popular. In doing so, I’ve come up with a few categories that people seem to like the most, and the top 10 posts in each category. That gives me some awesome content to reshare, and a great view of what to do more of.

This site will be changing quite a bit in the new year… I want to do a lot more DIY, crafty type stuff, since that’s what I’m super passionate about. Over the past year our life had a lot of changes, and obstacles, so I wasn’t able to do as much of the “fun” stuff that I wanted. But one thing that has always been a favorite here on Sunshine and Sippy Cups since the beginning has been tips on earning more money – whether it’s blogging advice, or other clever online tips. So, for this first round-up of most popular posts, I’m sharing the 10 posts on this site about earning money that got the most visits during 2014. Hope you find some helpful stuff!

It’s Blogathon Time! #Blogathon2

It’s Blogathon time! If you’re not familiar with the Biannual Blogathon Bash, you can learn more about what it’s all about on their site. It’s a big bloggy party, that happens twice a year – there are challenges to complete, a Facebook group to network and ask questions, Twitter parties to join, and prizes to win! It’s a weekend to set aside as much time as possible, and put some work into learning, growing, and building your blog. It’s an awesome way to make work more fun.

My Blogathon Goals:

I want to complete every single one of the mini-challenges this time. I’ve never been able to quite get through all of them, but have more time set aside this time.
I’d like to do some work on my new site. I started MeaganPaullin.com to be a place to share tips related to blogging, online business, and balancing it all – it’s got a theme, and that’s about it, lol. I want to at least get the sidebar widgets all set up, and a basic About page before Sunday night.
Visit all of the other bloggers who are participating. I’m one of the co-hosts for this event {I just love me some Blogathon!} – and want to make some time to connect with everyone else who’s joining the fun.

Not a long list, but a good list. And there are eleven mini-challenges to complete, so that should give me a lot to do!
