Due to some craziness that life threw our way, I ended up with an extremely blended household – including my brother and two nephews, me, the baby, and her dad, our dog Deuce, plus my mom and her 4 dachshunds… So we are a VERY full house – full of kids, full of craziness, and full of dogs – but totally full of love! We’re also one of those families. You know, the kind that dress up their dogs for holidays and special occasions. Love it. I mean, Abby gets a new Christmas dress each year, why shouldn’t grandma’s dogs get one too? And the dogs would feel totally left out if they didn’t get Halloween costumes, right? {Yes, I hear some of you shaking your heads. I don’t care, lol.}

Get Ready for Festive Holiday Events!!

I recently got the chance to partner with PromGirl.net to review one of their dresses – which was SUCH fun! I never got to go to Prom or any fancy dances when I was in High School, which is such a huge bummer, because I love, love, LOVE getting all dressed up! I have loved being a bridesmaid so many times, since I adore picking out dresses, and I get super excited about holiday parties – since it’s another excuse for me to get glammed up!

Prom is still several months away for most schools – but I know that when I was in High School {things could be wildly different now. I’m over 30, which means I am totally old and out dated…} we had quite a few winter formal dances. I am totally in love with the dresses above! I know that when you think of Holiday dresses, most people imagine black or red – but these would totally set you apart from the crowd! The colors are so bright and festive, the cut is so flattering and flowy, and they look like they’d be amazingly comfortable and easy to wear! They’d make a perfect holiday party dress for you, or a fun prom dress for the teenager in your life – since they’re cute, and they cover up without looking too stuffy.

I also love this more traditional style cocktail dress! I am completely in love with the feathery black detailing at the waist, and the textured look of the skirt – it’s like a more modern version of Old Hollywood style. This is on my wish list – it would be such a fun dress to wear to my boyfriends company Christmas Party!

Little Guy: He just turned 5, and started kindergarten this year, and has some trouble figuring out how to play a lot of the educational games we’ve tried out – even when they’re targeted towards his age bracket. JumpStarts online world has a few areas for him – StoryLand, aimed at 3-5 year olds, plus AdventureLand and MarineLand, designed for kids in kindergarten to second grade. They are just perfect! He can play alone without help, doesn’t get stuck or frustrated – and giggles away like crazy while he explores around! One of his favorites right away was the silly monkeys – The activity gives you a number. Then the monkeys swing out of the trees with different numbers, and he clicks on the one that matches. He LOVES these types of games, and they are really helping to reinforce what he is learning in the classroom.

Big Guy: He is 8 years old, and a bit harder to impress, lol. He is a total video game junkie, and it is tough for me to drag him away from his beloved XBOX Live most afternoons. But – I was really surprised to find that he totally loves the JumpStart world of games too!! He plays the Enchanted Sanctuary land {3rd to 5th grades} where he gets to train his own dragon. I feel quite sneaky, knowing that he’s doing something educational, while he thinks he’s just playing a cool game. There is also a feature on JumpStart.com that you can set up, so that the kids can play with their friends – when you log into your account, you get a “Buddy Code” that you can share with your friends – and then they can add it to their own accounts, and the kids can do live chat and play together! {And I feel MUCH better about this, then when he asks to chat live on the XBOX, that is for SURE!}

What I Love:

I set up the JumpStart Connect, which connects the games with my Facebook page, and lets me stay updated on what the kids are up to while playing.
There are some really great printable worksheets, organized by age group, and categories like math or reading, and you have access to them all right from your site!
The combination of a very fun, upbeat learning environment, and cool features for older kids to enjoy – plus loads of cool app’s and extras. Stacks and papers and piles, oh my! What starts off as a couple bills, some magazines or school notices can very quickly turn into messy mountains of papers all over your house. Well, this week we’re going to show you how easy it is to rid yourself of all that paper and organize your home. First think of junk mail as unwelcome guests and don’t let it in your house, only touch something once (you’ll see what we mean by that), scan important stuff (we love the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300) – so you can save it digitally and shred what’s left.

I think that this is a tech tip directed right towards me! I am super organized – but paper pile-up is my biggest challenge. I’m already using a few of the amazing organizational sites that she mentions – Like Manilla and Evernote – but I definitely need to get better at scanning in more stuff that I file away. I started using the super awesome site I told you about a couple months ago – AboutOne – and I am lovin’ that. I can snap pic’s of receipts and send them directly to a “Shopping” folder there, and scan the kids artwork and add it to their “School” files. My favorite is that I scanned all of our insurance policies and added to an AboutOne folder – and I can access these from my phone too! BUT – While I’m getting much better about scanning and saving digitally, I do need to start shredding what I toss! Love her product recommendations, as always.
