Eggo Waffle Owls

Kids waffle recipes… For one week I’m sharing a new “out of the box” waffle recipe each day. We’re creating all of this super fun stuff to celebrate the Great Eggo Waffle Off contest – find details below if you want to enter too, or just check out all of the awesome entries. For this last one, I let my little Abby help me choose what to create.

We’re big fans of owls here in my house – From owl themed accessories, to Abby’s fave owl sweater – we love anything with the big round-eyed birds. So – when I created these owls snacks out of Eggo Waffles, Abby totally flipped out! Impressing a two year old is hard. If you have one, you know what I mean, lol. And she was super excited. It’s ridiculously easy to make:

Take one Eggo waffle of your choice and toast well.
Cut the “wings” off of each side of the waffle with a super sharp knife. I used a less than sharp one, which is why you see a few less than clean cuts.
Add two big banana slices as eyes, and put a couple of mini chocolate chips or even raisins as eyeballs.
Cut a small triangle of cheddar cheese for a beak. Add all of the pieces to the waffle with cream cheese, so they stick.
If you want to “grow” a tree in the background, use some wafer cookies, with stick pretzles for the main part of the tree.

And – BAM! You’re done. You’ve got a delish toasted owl snack :) Add things like jelly or jam, peanut butter or Nutella. Top with other fruits, coconut, sprinkles, whatever! As always, you know all of my recipes are mix and match, and never too serious :)
