How to choose the right film for movie night

I will admit it – When it comes to kids movies, I’m more conservative than I ever would have thought. I’m a big fan of bad jokes, inapropriate humor, Family Guy, etc. But when it comes to stuff my little girl watches {she’s going to be three in July} I want to ensure we watch things with mostly positive messages. Example: Antz. We rented that on Pay-Per-View awhile ago. I assumed it would be like the Bugs Life movie. And it is cute – until the part where the big ant tells the little one, “What are you bitching about?” in regard to the little ant complaining that his life was not what he had hoped. If Abby heard adults saying that, I’m not upset. But in a cartoon, messaged right at kids, they’ll repeat the things they hear, you know? So – if you want help in choosing better films for kids, use my fave resources: Kids-in-mind.com or CommonSenseMedia.com.

Princess Movie Night

So, for our most recent movie night last night – we had a Princess Night. We grabbed all of our favorite princess movies like I showed above. And I made adorable little fancy “princess” cupcakes for Abby and I to eat with our movie. I love to put our special treats on grandma’s old tea cup plates – and Abby just adores that. She says they’re “on the QUEEN’S plates” – Lol.

Movie night popcorn with Pop Secret

The best popcorn for family movie nights

Honestly – I don’t always even eat pop corn. But there has NEVER been a time that I went to the movie theater, and didn’t order a bit buttery box. And when we have our weekly movie nights at home {almost always Sundays} – we of course eat a big box or two of popcorn. {I prefer mine with a few splashes of the spray butter, and then a couple shakes of seasoning salt like Johnny’s on it. Mmmmm – so good! And if you want good popcorn, there really is no better choice than Pop-Secret….
