Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two… You’ve probably heard of this game by now, even if you’re not a big gamer. Disney’s new Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, is on all of the “Hottest Gifts of the Season” lists this year. I’d been seeing it everywhere, so I was pretty anxious to give it a try with the kiddos here at home. I know that sometimes video games can be a challenge – none of us want the kids sitting in front of a TV all day, right? But I’m a big lover of family game nights – and a really great vide game is a perfect way to keep everyone entertained and enjoying time together. Love that, right?
An Epic Adventure of Creativity and Discovery
Epic Mickey 2 is described as, “an epic adventure of creativity and discovery” – and I couldn’t agree more with that description. That really sums it up so perfectly… This game is really exciting – and interesting. I am NOT a fan of shoot-em-up games, mindless games, stuff where kids just zone out and play. Epic Mickey 2 is not like that – it guides kiddos through things with clues and prompts, but they have to really get into some critical thinking to figure things out along the way. And they have to make choices along the way, using their tools to change their environment. And they do it all without overcomplicating things, so that Little Guy {he’s 6} can still play without getting frustrated.
Epic 2-Player action
Ok, one of our favorite things about this game is the 2-player action. It’s really cool the way you can jump in and out of the game to help each other out – you have to seriously use teamwork to be successful in the game. Which totally sold me on this – since I like games that build skills and encourage positivity. Love it. As you can see – we got the Epic Mickey 2 game for the Xbox, which meant I had to review it at my brother’s new place… He moved out recently, taking the Xbox with him. But we love it so much that I think I’ll be buying it for my Wii too – and it’s got some cool extra gadgets for Wii play, like the Epic Mickey 2 Mickey’s Paintbrush, and Oswald’s Clicker controller.
Graphics and Features Rock on Epic Mickey 2
The kids are hard to impress when it comes to video games – they’ve played a lot of them. But even they noticed how crisp and detailed the graphics are on this game – seriously, gorgeous to watch. And I loved that there are bits of old school Disney in the game, like a scene from Fantasia. They even use the official, original voice actors for the characters voices in the game! There are even scenes when the game turns into a bit of a musical, which is fun for Abby to dance to.
See Epic Mickey in action!
Ok, so I tried to take a video of the game as the boys played it – to give you an idea of how the game unfolds as you explore through the awesomely detailed worlds. But – once I got home and looked at it on YouTube, it did not record well. But, my poor iPhone is dying a slow death, and hasn’t been working right. {Which is why I am switching to a new Windows phone this weekend – hooray!} You can take a peek here – Epic Mickey Game on YouTube – It’s kind of choppy, but it gives you a bit of an idea of how you use the tools your player has to kind of create your landscape as you explore. And check out some of the other videos posted too – you know, the ones that are good, lol.
I definitely recommend this game for anyone – young and old!
It’s a great game for families to play together – the teamwork factor really makes it fun for game nights. It’s available at just about anywhere video games are sold – since it’s a top seller this season. Or pick it up right now on Amazon – Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two. Whether you get it as a super sweet Christmas gift for the kids – or as a great addition to your holiday parties to keep everyone entertained – you will be glad you did. Pinky promise!
