Master Bedroom DIY Makeover Update

A few months back I told you guys about my ambitious plans to totally overhaul my bedroom – {Mildly} Extreme Master Bedroom & Playroom Makeover, and I haven’t posted any updates since then. Why? Well – life has been pretty darn crazy. Abby had a seizure about 3 months ago – and has a few more since then. They’re not sure why, and all of those appointments are keeping us pretty busy. Then last month my brother and the boys moved out – giving us two extra bedrooms. So a lot my effort was directed towards setting up a new guest room, and a new playroom for Abby. And since we were able to move her toys to the new space, that opened up new possibilities in our Master Bedroom too. We’re in the buying/prepping/re-planning stage right now, and will finish ALL of the projects during January and February, after the holidays. Let me give you a look at where we’re at, and the fun that we have planned!

Bedroom in grey - design inspirationOk – this is the inspiration for my new bedroom space. Isn’t it gorgeous? I love the simple color scheme of greys, creams, silvers, and black – and the combination of so many textures in the room is amazing. One of my big projects in January is repainting a bunch of room in the house – and I’ll be painting our bedroom in a grey very similar to this, and switching from oak to a white trim like this too. Love it.

low cost flooringThe next major project is flooring – when we moved in, the Master Bedroom carpet was already kind of stained up. It’s a light cream color, which would be pretty, but is also kind of impractical with dogs and a toddler. Instead of paying a ton to have it professionally cleaned, we’re thinking of switching to a wood floor. We found a pretty awesome site for flooring – Porcelain, ceramic, stone, tile, wood and laminate, and some of the lowest prices I’ve ever seen. I’m pretty sure we’ll be putting down a laminate wood floor, instead of traditional hardwood – it’s affordable, super durable, and really – I can’t tell much of a difference. I’m thinking that the Smoked Ash would be a really perfect contrast to the white trim in the room. If you’re in need of low price flooring, I totally recommend checking out Floor and Decor on Pinterest for more great ideas.

Another big thing we need to work on is our Master Bathroom – it’s got some awesome features like a big jacuzzi tub, tons of storage cupboards, and some awesome black and silver tile. But, those cupboards are pretty darn old and worn. And the tile on the walls is super plain, and some are cracked around the tub. I’ve got a ton of great ideas – {See my fave Bathroom DIY Inspiration} – and I want to keep the same color scheme, and mix of textures, as the Master Bedroom.  That’s where my new fave site comes in handy once again – Floor and Decor has some really great decorative tiles, including some beautiful glass tiles! Check out a fave I’m loving…

Siena Decorative MedallionIsn’t this Siena Decorative Medallion amazing?? I would LOVE to incorporate this into the tile design in the bathroom as we re-do it. I’ve got a big starburst-style mirror that will be going into the bathroom too, so it’ll be perfect.

I’ve got a ton more ideas too – check them out on the Master Bedroom Makeover Pinterest board!

I’m going to be creating some cool new artwork for our walls, we’re going to {finally!} finish building the new closet, I’m repainting an old dresser of mine to bring into the room now too, since we’ve got more space, and I’ll be creating some cool new accessory pieces to help store and display all of my jewelry. I can’t wait to get everything finished up and pulled together – and I’m excited to show you some of the projects as we get them completed!
