What Makes You Smile? #SweetSmart

“A smile is a curve that sets everything straight.” – Phyllis Diller… I’m what you’d call a “glass half full” kind of girl. I’ve always been great at finding the silver lining, the rainbow after the rain, the sun behind the clouds. There are tons of things that make me smile – sparkles, cupcakes, ridiculously adorable baby animal pictures on Pinterest, and of course, my family.

Things that make me smileThese are the little misters of my life – My nephews, on their first day of school. They live with me half of the time, and the older one was the first baby I ever held {crazy.} Love these guys – and I cannot believe how fast they are growing up! What little men they are becoming already.

connecting with loved onesAnother thing that makes me smile – connecting with family. Abby’s little chubby-cheeked smiles are just about the greatest thing I’ve ever experienced in my whole life, and they’re even better when they’re partnered with a wave at Grandpa while we talk to him each week via Skype.

Silly smilesThese uber silly faces make me smile. Seriously – who can stay in a bad mood when you’ve got goofy kids making crazy faces and goofy sounds, right? And these kids are the kings of weirdness, just like my brother {their daddy.} Love it.

Protecting smilesTo protect the most important smiles in my life – my own, and my family’s – I try to be pretty vigilant about brushing and flossing twice a day. We use a super smart gadget called the Twooth Timer to keep the kids brushing for long enough, and I make sure to replace brushes every three months, or after someone has a cold. But I didn’t know how many cool new products were out there that could really make a huge difference in keeping our smiles bright. Learn a few surprising facts:

Crazy, right? And good oral care habits need to start even earlier than you might think – even an infant needs to have their gums cleaned regularly! Now that I know that the routine we have going on is good – but not great – I’m going to be giving it a boost with this box of awesome products and tips from Listerine. {Did you know that there was a toothbrush that whitens your teeth? Amazing.}

Since we’re coming up on the biggest candy day of the whole year – followed by a season of super sweets – it’s more important than ever to follow good brushing, flossing, and rinsing habits!

So now that we’ve stocked up on awesome brushes, smart rinses, and easy floss tools, we’re going to challenge ourselves, as a family, to get some better habits. We’ve got a little tracking board up on the fridge to mark down morning and night, and we’ll all be reminding each other to do better. I can’t wait to share the tips that worked best for us, and our results, in another post coming soon. Stay tuned! And follow the #SweetSmart hashtag on Twitter to learn more great ideas and hear stories from other real moms like me.

Let’s Chat: What are your biggest challenges – or biggest successes! – when it comes to keeping your family’s smiles bright?

{Disclaimer: I received complimentary product package from Listerine and The Motherhood to help me with this challenge – as well as a fact-filled webinar with great experts. All photos, opinions, and over-use of the word awesome are 100% my own, and totally honest. Thanks for reading – you rock.}
