The Magic Way to Simplify Digital Photo Organization

“A good snapshot stops a moment from running away.” – Eudora Welty… I love photography. I’m definitely the person in my family that’s responsible for capturing those great moments we have all year – from videotaping birthdays, to snapping fun pics of the kids in the pool, to making the annual photo books for everyone at Christmas time. I have so many favorites – but I’m not always good about organizing them…

Christmas portrait - how to organize online photos

This is Abby last year at the holidays. I can’t even believe how much she has changed over the last 10 months – my oh my, where does the time go? Her hair wasn’t even long enough for pigtails last year! But I love this silly little smile and those chubby cheeks. Priceless to me.

Toddler seeing horse for the first time

Mike has two older daughters too, from a previous marriage. His oldest trains horses, and we took Abby out to see them for the first time about a month ago. She walked right up to the fence, sat down in the dirt, then patted her lap and said, “Come here horsey, come on.” Like she expected the horse to come and jump into her lap. Looking at this pic cracks me up every time.

Family Photo

This is our only family photo – taken last year at the very end of fall. I love it, and definitely need to get prints made of this for our albums. And it reminds me that I need to take the time to have family photos done more often – time passes so quickly, and I love the way that favorite photos can help you capture and remember those moments, before they fade away.

Now – It’s time to show you the magic!

Like I mentioned before – I have all of these favorite photos that mean so much to me. But I am always forgetting to transfer them from my camera to my computer. And when I DO find the time to do it, I always end up sending big batches of unrelated pics into one big folder. But now, I have found a little magic digital superhero to do all of the work for me – The BestBuy.com Eye-Fi Wireless Memory Card. Seriously, this thing will rock your world. You can read the specs and product details on the Best Buy site if you’re interested. For me, I just care about the “magic” that this little gadget does, which I’ll explain here:

  • It’s simple. It works in almost all cameras, and simply replaces your existing memory card. There are no cords and cables, no software to buy, and setting it up was so easy – I was able to do it all by myself, without calling Mike in 27 times to ask questions. Seriously, you’ll have it ready to go and ready to upload photos within just a few minutes.
  • It’s like having an endless memory card. Have you ever been out snapping pics, and suddenly get that darn “Memory Full” message on your screen because you forgot to download your pics the last time you used your camera? So frustrating, right? Well, the Eye-Fi solves that dilemma, since it automatically downloads them for you and then deletes them off of the camera too. Such a time saver.
  • It’s wireless. Imagine – you’re taking pictures on Christmas morning, and your camera is connecting to your wireless network to automatically send those photos to your computer, so that after the gifts are opened, you can hop online right away to send them to family. You can even have it send them automatically to your favorite sites, like Facebook, Flickr, or a photo printing site. Very cool.
  • It’s such a time saver. If you’re out taking pics at an event, it’s simple to load them to your computer when you get home. Just turn the camera on, and set it down by your computer. The super magic Eye-Fi will then send the photos over “automagically” and organize them into folders for you. If you’re a busy blogger who takes loads of pics all the time, this is a huge help.
  • There’s an app for that! Yep, you can download the Eye-Fi app right to your iPhone, and be able to move pics on the go, right from your camera onto your phone, ready for editing and sharing on your favorite sites. Love this.

So – whatta ya think ladies? Sounds pretty darn cool, am I right? I’ve been using this for about a month now, and have no idea how I lived without it. If you’re ready to get one too, you can find it at BestBuy.com, or stop in to your local store to pick one up. 5. I love your photos and OMG I NEED ONE OF THOSE!

  6. Love it! My camera phone is set to auto upload via wi-fi but I am forever lamenting that I have an older digital cam that still requires me to take the card in and out… and I leave it in the computer more often than not… I’m definitely adding this to my holiday wishlist!

  7. OK it would absolutely solve the challenge I have of keeping up with my card reader. I buy a new card reader like once a month just so I can get my photos onto my computer. It SUCKS! This little thing is a GEM and I can assure you that I’ll be running my big butt to BestBuy this week to get one!

  8. I am glad that I am not the only one that has TONS of pics but no organization lol. I am definitely going to have to grab one of these.

  9. That is AWESOME!! Adding to my Christmas list!!

  10. Ok, that is cool!! I tend to dump my photos to a folder on my computer once a month from my phone, trouble is, I find it hard once I dump the photos to then organize them into folders for a specific child. So this would be pretty neat!! Like Sarah, I will be adding this to my Christmas wish list!!
