Weight Loss Simplified: Another week, another pound lost – yeah bay-bee! It’s been amazing how simple it is to lose weight on Nutrisystem, since I had absolutely no luck at all on my own. And next week is another big week: I’m taking new measurements, to see if I’ve lost as many inches all around as I did last time. {Fingers crossed!} I know that after following the Nutrisystem diet for almost 3 months now, I’m finally able to fit into my old pre-baby jeans again – so it’s definitely working! But – since I’m getting closer to the end of my 4-month program, I’m starting to educate myself even more on some smart habits to maintain this exciting weight loss on my own.

Weight loss doesn’t have to be complicated

I think that the main reason Nutrisystem worked so well for me is because it’s so easy to use. Each month they ship me all of my meals – prepacked into perfect portion sizes, with just the right balance of nutrition and protein. They give me a great log book to help me track everything that I eat, so I know how to keep my metabolism running on high. Everything is just so grab and go, and a total no brainer. How could you NOT lose, right? They even provide options like brownies, burgers, and mashed potatoes. Mmmm – and have you checked out the recipe for Turkey Burger with Onion-Apple Relish? SO GOOD!

What I’ve learned on Nutrisystem so far:

When I first started this program, the portion sizes were a shock! I had NO idea that I was eating such oversize amounts. I ate healthy foods – just WAY too much of them. But now I’m so used to seeing the “right” sized portions that I’ll be able to better judge how much to dish up on my own. I’ve also realized how much better I feel when switching out the white rice, bread, and other simple carbs for the whole grain versions. I honestly like the taste of the healthier grains, and notice I’m a lot less puffy then I used to be. Eating so much more veggies has also really helped me feel better – Cleaner. Fresher. It’s like I have a personal chef – my meals are pretty much ready to go every night when I am, I just have to take a minute and heat them up. Sweet.

The Secret to Wearing a Swimsuit After Having a Baby

So, for a couple of months now I’ve been updating you each week on my Nutrisystem journey. And if you’ve been following along since the very beginning, you might remember my goal that I started with – to fit into my very favorite pair of pre-baby skinny jeans. And, drum roll please…… Last Sunday I put them on and they FIT!!!!! This was seriously an exciting moment for me. I mean, I knew I’d lost some weight. And I’ve just started to get regular comments from people mentioning that I look like I’d lost weight. And my total weight loss is now at 17 pounds. {Can I get a heck yeah??} But I honestly am surprised by how much my body shape has changed – and could NOT be more excited!!

I love summer. And I love it even more this year, because I’m super excited to rock my new swimsuit and not have to hide behind a towel every time we have company over. We have a big deck and patio that surrounds an in-ground pool – which means we entertain a lot during the summer months. And last year I missed out on a lot of fun, since I was too embarrassed to be seen very often in my swimsuit. But not this year – this year I am ready bay-bee! I’m continuing with the Nutrisystem diet for about a month and a half more, and hope to have gotten pretty darn close to my goal of losing 40 pounds by then. Pretty awesome, right?

Turkey Burger with Onion-Apple Relish

With the Nutrisystem diet, I’m super excited for summer. I’m excited to finally wear a bikini again and rock my Mom-garita look, I’m excited to actually be able to jump in and have fun during our pool parties instead of hiding behind a big towel, and I’m super excited to have found some awesome recipes for summer BBQ’s featuring my fave Nutrisystem foods. When you’re a Nutrisystem member, you get access to a ton of cool online tools – including a super sweet recipe section. I found a Refreshing Summer Poke Cake, made with Nutrisystem Golden Pound Cake and strawberries, some super yummy sweet potato fries, and this one which is my favorite – Turkey Burger with Onion-Apple Relish. Mmmmm – Super excited to try it this weekend.

Turkey Burger with Onion-Apple Relish

Ingredients

  • Calorie-free pan spray, as needed
  • 4, 4 oz. turkey burgers, extra lean variety
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, julienne slices
  • 1 medium apple, peeled, cut into quarters
  • 1 Tbsp. apple sauce (unsweetened)
  • 1/4 tsp. cumin, ground
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper, as desired
  • Lettuce, as desired
  • Tomatoes, sliced
  • 4 each burger buns, whole grain

Instructions

  1. 1. Heat grill or broiler.
  2. 2. Spray onions, peppers and apples with pan spray, place on grill or under a broiler and cook until all pieces are slightly charred and beginning to soften.
  3. 3. Cool vegetables and apples slightly, then mince all grilled items and place in a small bowl.
  4. 4. Add apple sauce, cumin and pepper to bowl and toss to blend. Allow to stand covered while you prepare your burgers.
  5. 5. Prepare turkey burgers on grill or under broiler. Place burgers on a bun and spread a portion of the onion-apple relish over each burger. Top with tomato slices and lettuce if desired.
  6. Variations and Serving Suggestions:
  7. Substitute extra-lean ground beef for the turkey burgers, or use the Nutrisystem® Flame Broiled Beef Patty or Nutrisystem® Grilled Chicken Breast, then top with relish. Yields 4 servings.

I Heart Nutrisystem!

There are so many things to love about Nutrisystem, and these awesome member-submitted recipes are so incredibly helpful. Each month I get a huge shipment filled with all of my favorites – but even with all of that variety, sometimes you do crave “new” foods. Having access to these awesome recipes in my Nutrisystem account make is so easy to use my prepackaged foods to make super fun summer recipes.

Results for This Week

Ok, I have a confession. This week I didn’t lose any weight. Super bummed about that. BUT – I had two big parties for friends, plus a Mother’s Day brunch and dinner party. I’m learning to make better choices when I can’t eat my balanced Nutrisystem meals, but I did splurge a little this week. Luckily, I’ve been adding more exercise by going on daily walks with Abby, and followed the plan perfectly when I was eating at home – which prevented me from GAINING weight. So for that I’m grateful. And this week I’m just working twice as hard at losing a pound or two!

Nutrisystem Week 9 Updates

Those of you who have been following my Nutrisystem journey so far know that I have been super happy with my experience. Is it easy? No, not really. But it’s not all that difficult either. I’d never struggled with my weight until I had a baby, so I guess I just wasn’t prepared for how hard it would be to lose the 70+ pounds that I gained while pregnant. {Yep, over 70. I did pre-natal yoga, ate amazingly healthy foods, but just blew up like a freakin’ balloon. My mom and grandma both did too. Just my lucky set of genes I guess, lol.} But – after over a year of trying to lose the weight on my own, I finally found something that WORKS for me – Nutrisystem!

I’ve read so many stories where people had super crazy-fast weight loss, but that’s not my goal. I wanted to lose 1-2 pounds a week, and so far I’ve been able to stick to that for 9 weeks now! I’ve lost a total of 15 pounds, which is pretty awesome. And – one of my favorite things about Nutrisystem is the total support and encouragement from everyone! I just got this little cutie in the mail a few days ago, congratulating me on losing my first 10 pounds. How cool is that?

  4. The Daily Dose: This is just one of the tools available in the Inform & Inspire section – but it’s my favorite one. I love the quick motivational stories and tips each morning!

Diet for a Day – See My Results

Have you been wondering how my Nutrisystem journey is going? Wondering why you hadn’t seen an update lately? Well – I missed last week’s post, and am late on this week’s, because my site got hacked and was down for almost 6 days! Yikes, right? But as of this morning – I’m BAAACK, bay-bee!! And I’m here to share a little more about how things are going for me, and what results I’m seeing. But first – I’d like to give you a taste of what it’s like following the Nutrisystem plan. Nutrisystem Ham & Cheese Omelet

Breakfast Time – 6:00 am

I love so many of the breakfast options at Nutrisystem – but this one is definitely my favorite. Super yummy, and so filling. I have this in the morning with one of the awesome chocolate shakes – Love that cool shaker container that they send for mixing these. Works amazing! And the protein in the shakes really does help me from getting hungry again for awhile. Plus, all breakfast frozen options take only 1-2 minutes to pop in the microwave, making it quick and easy to grab and then jump on the computer and get to work.

Morning Snack Time – 9:00 am

A couple hours after breakfast I grab a quick snack. For this option, you add in what’s called a PowerFuel – things like a string cheese, yogurt, or a hard-boiled egg. You can also add in a non-starchy veggie too, if you’re hungry. {Some days are crazier than others – and with all the rushing around, I find myself hungrier than usual!} I also love that the snacks that are good for my diet are also good for the kids – and make great healthy options for Abby to snack with me during the day.

Nutrisystem Margherita Pizza

Lunch Time: 12:00 noon

For lunch, you just grab any of your easy to prepare options, and they’re even marked with the big lunch label, making them easy to find. You can get frozen options like an Italian Style Turkey & Sausage Melt or this uh-MAY-zing Margherita Pizza, or shelf-stable portions of soups or pastas. Pair your lunch entree with another PowerFuel, and as many non-starchy veggies as you like! I usually build a big salad at lunch time – it fills me up, and gets me a ton of servings of veggies. {You’re allowed 3 “extras” per day – which is where you get the dressing for your salad.}

Afternoon Snack: 3:00 pm

I eat a snack right before the boys get home from school – so that I’m full, and not tempted to eat any of the not-so-diet-friendly snacks that they might crave when they get home. The afternoon snack is a SmartCarb – I usually add in a fruit – something like raisins, an orange, or a banana. If I’m not using many extras in my days meals – I’ll have a bowl of strawberries and a bit of non-fat whip cream. Mmmmmm :)

Nutrisystem Citrus BBQ Glazed Pork

Dinner time: 6:00 pm

This is my FAVORITE of the Nutrisystem dinner entrees – the Citrus BBQ Glazed Pork! The texture of the meat is amazing, I’ve never had a frozen dinner be so good. The flavor is awesome – the combo of sweet and spicy is SO good. At dinner you add another SmartCarb – so I usually add a whole grain roll, or a side of baked beans if it fits the meal. Then I add more veggies – either another big salad, or my favorite – A big serving of green beans! Man, I could eat a whole can of those. I can’t wait until my garden gets going this year, and I can have fresh ones each night. I love that all of my meals, all day long, are already measured to perfect portions, balanced with great nutrition, and protein-packed to keep me powered up. It’s so simple to grab, munch and enjoy, and go!

Dessert: 9:00 pm

While I finish up blogging work at the computer late at night, I always crave a little treat. That is my very favorite thing about the Nutrisystem plan – they make it easy to follow by not restricting you from your favorite foods. Every single night you can choose a dessert – from a piece of chocolate cake or a white-chocolate chunk cookie – to frozen options like a creamy fudge or orange cream bar. If you’re more of a salty type, you can choose from cheese puffs or buttery popcorn. Love it, right?

Now… For the Results!

Well, I have to admit it – I didn’t see as much loss the past two weeks as I would have liked to. But, I was also at a conference in Texas for 4 days – and between the hotel breakfast, airport food, and dinners out, it was really tough to stay on track. But – thanks to following this plan for so long now, I am totally able to make better choices, and realize what a “real” portion looks like. {Can you say – Doggie Bag Please??} – But, I AM still losing! Last weigh in was 179 pounds. I’m now at 177 – so only a pound per week for the past two weeks. BUT…

My Last Measurements

These were taken at the end of my first month on the Nutrisystem plan, and I saw a decrease in every single category, versus my original measurements. Not a huge change – but it was measurable, and that totally thrilled me.

  • Upper Arms: 13.0
  • Chest: 41.5
  • Waist: 36.0
  • Hips: 43.5
  • Thighs: 24.5
So… What did I see in this next set of measurements?? I’d only lost 2 pounds, but I HAD been super active. With the travel, the constant action of the conference I attended, and the extra exercise that I’ve been adding into my day, I was hoping to see at least a slight change….

My New Measurements:

These were taken today – Date: 04/24/2012. Check ’em out babeeeeee – I am so super excited to see that again, I have lost a measurable amount in EVERY single category. How amazing is this??

  • Upper Arms: 12.0
  • Chest: 42.0
  • Waist: 35.5
  • Hips: 41.5
  • Thighs: 22.5

If you add it all up – that’s a total of 6 inches that I’ve lost off of this body! Woah. Yes – the results are not super dramatic. But – this is not a quick-fix diet. This is all about healthy lifestyle changes, and long-term weight loss. I am totally blown away by both how easy it is, and how effective it’s been for me – even when I’m not able to follow it perfectly, while I’m away on business trips. Imagine what it can do for you too!

Week 5 on Nutrisystem – Results are Rockin’!

Over the course of the first month on the Nutrisystem program, I was really proud to meet my goal of losing at least a pound a week. So this month, I wanted to try to double that – And so far, so good!!! I was SUPER excited to step on the scale on Sunday for my weekly weigh-in, and see that I had lost almost 2.5 pounds over the week. I seriously can’t believe it – I have tried for over a year to get this baby weight off, and couldn’t get that scale to budget one bit. This is rockin’ – and I couldn’t be happier!

Why I love Nutrisystem…

The Nutrisystem plan includes a ton of variety in the foods that you get to choose from each day, and you even get to add in your own snacks – which means that it’s a perfect fit for anyone who needs help losing weight. Here are a few of the reasons why it works so perfectly for me –

  1. I’m a busy mom. I don’t have time to carefully measure portions and count up all of the calories in the ingredients that I cook with. Some days I barely have time TO eat, let alone add in a bunch of extra steps. With Nutrisystem, it’s so simple to eat right – I just grab something marked lunch, add in a salad or string cheese, and I can eat and enjoy, knowing that my meals are balanced and healthy.
  2. The foods are great. I really expected that the foods wouldn’t be very good. So many “diet” foods have that yucky artificial type of taste, or worse – have no taste at all! But on Nutrisystem, I get to enjoy awesome dinners like Citrus Barbeque Glazed Pork, healthy Chicken Enchiladas, or the deliciously spicy Adobo Rubbed Pork. So good!
  3. There are tons of shelf-stable options. This is really great for me – I can throw a meal bar in my purse to eat if I know I’ll be out running errands, or bring along a chocolate muffin for morning playdates. Next week I’m headed on a business trip to Fort Worth, Texas, and will be able to pack a few of these options in my bag, to help me stay on track while away from home.

One Month of Nutrisystem = 5 Pounds Lost!

Dang…. I absolutely HATE seeing myself on a scale – and seeing SUCH a high numbers! Never in my life would I have imagined that I’d weigh this much… But thankfully, I have the support system at Nutrisystem to keep me on track, and keep me motivated towards getting back to a number on the scale that I can be proud to share here with you guys.

My Goals for Nutrisystem

When I first was getting started with Nutrisystem, I took a full set of measurements, from thighs and hips to arms and chest, so that I could track my progress. The number on the scale is important – but my shape is what matters more, since it’s what determines whether I’ll get my booty back into those pre-baby jeans or not. Nutrisystem gives you a great online support system, filled with awesome tracking tools – so that’s where I added in my measurements and starting weight. I wanted to lose at least a pound or two per week, and hopefully see a measurable difference in my curves after the first month….

I Met all of my Weight Loss goals!

Woooo! While I would’ve loved to see a little more weight loss, I’m very happy with 5 pounds in 4 weeks. As long as I keep losing at least a pound a week, I’ll feel like I’m making progress. And – I lost about a half-inch on almost ALL of my measurements – waist, hips, chest, arms, and thighs. That was pretty exciting to see! I’ve been getting more activity in my day, but haven’t been doing any major exercise yet – so these results make me really happy.

What’s Next for me and Nutrisystem

This month, I’d love to really push myself harder to exercise, and lose 10 pounds. I admit to cheating a couple of times last month – and still lost 5 pounds. So, if I can avoid those things that test my willpower – {lunches out with friends, taco night with the kids} – for a few weeks, I know I can do it.
