Nabi 2 Disney Special Edition – See it in Action

Looking for the best kids tablet? Look no further… Let me introduce you all to the nabi 2 Disney Edition, available this holiday season from my fave peeps over at Best Buy. {I received a complimentary nabi 2 tablet to test out for this review – everything that follows are my own honest rambling opinions, as always…}

nabi 2 Disney Special Edition

I am super lucky-ducky to have gotten to work with the Best Buy team for the past year or so, and I’ve gotten to try out a lot of their super cool new products as they come out. And while this is of course a ton of fun for us – the real goal is so that I can share some real-life feedback about these sweet new gadgets with you guys. You know, the stuff you really want to know about. You can find the product specs and technical info on the websites – but you want the skinny on how they work in real life, with real crazy kids. So, I’m here to give you some {hopefully!} helpful insight into one of the hottest holiday gift items of the season – a kids tablet that rocks for little ones and their parents. Check it…

how to choose the best kid's tablet computer

I can’t believe all of the technology that exists for kids these days. I hate to show my age, but…. When I was a kid, we had an Atari. I remember the excitement of things like the first Nintendo. The Walkman and cassette tapes. Heck – do you remember how freakin’ awesome it was to play Oregon Trail on a computer? My nephews don’t believe me that when I was in middle school a kid having a cell phone was unheard of – in high school the cool kids just started to carry pagers. What a long way the world of tech has come, right? My oldest nephew has friends in 3rd grade with nicer iPhones than I have, and every kid has a tablet on their Christmas list this year. And, the nabi gives you some serious power and programs, at a price that won’t blow your whole holiday budget.

Awesome, right? We’re pretty much in love with it here. But, I have heard a few other reviews that mention that the Nabi has a low battery life… Well, everything in my house has a low battery life to be honest, between the kids constantly playing with things and not plugging things in, or me forgetting to charge them each night. But I don’t see any difference between the battery life on the Nabi versus any of our other tablets. But, if you want some specs to compare it to other tablets and toys, here are a few key things to look at:

  • The nabi 2 is a 7-inch tablet, meant just for kids. It’s slightly larger than the Kindle Fire Kids Edition, and a bit bigger than the LeapPad 2icon. I actually really prefer that this is bigger, since the tablets in my house are used by kids from 3-10, and I like them to fit well into little hands.
  • This “just for kids” tablet runs on the Android system, which many of you might be familiar with. If not, no worries – I’m an iPhone
    icon girl, and caught on in minutes, promise :)
  • 1 GB RAM memory, plus 8 GB Expandable via MicroSD (Up to 32 GB); Plus 2 GB FREE Cloud Storage. {This is very technical. But it means that you can store a heck of a lot of games and apps and photos and cool stuff in this bad boy.}
  • It’s got wi-fi and blue-tooth, so that rocks. It’s also got a pretty awesome front-facing digital camera built-in, to help kids capture their favorite moments to share with you. Priceless.
  • There’s a built-in microphone, it comes with a power cable, and even includes a drop-safe bumper that ensures your new awesome gadget is safe as can be. Because moms need some peace of mind, right?

Ok – forgive the quality of this quick Instagram video – I was trying to hold my phone myself while swiping the tablet too, so it’s a wee bit shaky, I know. But it gives you an idea of all of the pages and pages and pages of goodies that come pre-loaded on this Disney Special Edition of the nabi. I hate when you get a new device and have to take an hour to get it filled with stuff to play with. I mean, I LOVED the Kindle Fire, and I love that there are a ton of free apps and games, but it did take a long time to find good ones and get them loaded on there. It comes with all of the nabi 2 content, plus an ADDITIONAL $200 worth of Disney Content. And nabi will provide OTA updates to this Special Edition with even more cool new Disney Content too. Awesomesauce. Here’s a taste of what you’ll get:

  • Disney TV: The Disney Edition tablet comes with 6 full length episodes from popular Disney TV shows such as Phineas & Ferb, Austin & Ally, and Jake & the Never Land Pirates. You can also watch live television too – Disney Junior, Disney Channel, and Disney XD.
  • Disney Music: You can sing along with 50 hit tracks from popular shows and bands, and listen to Radio Disney 24/7 – anytime, anywhere! You can also interact with Radio Disney with these awesome features: Request a song, Send Shout-Outs, Add songs to your Favorites List, See recently played songs, and Listen to your local station & see local events. Abby and I love doing Disney Karaoke!
  • Disney Stories: Right out of the box, you get 6 Disney e-Books of Disney stories from favorites like Cars, Cinderella, Monsters Inc. and more! Abby loves that the books read to her, and she’s learning to read along with them.
  • Disney Apps: It also comes with Disney apps and games, like Winnie the Pooh Puzzle Book, Mickey Count Along, Angry Birds, and more. And of course you can always add even more cool content later, to customize it even more. There are even some really cool apps to help with math skills like counting – which Abby thinks are really cool.

How to keep kid's tablets safe

This nabi 2 Disney Special Edition is totally mom-approved – as powerful as most of the higher-priced tablets, at a kid-friendly price. It includes quality kid’s content from a trusted brand – Disney – and includes password protection to keep little ones only seeing what they should be seeing. The awesome bumper-cover gives you peace of mind in those, “But mom, I only dropped it a little bit” moments.

nabi 2 stand

I definitely recommend this for your holiday shopping lists this season. And – I also recommend a few add ons: I definitely recommend getting the nabi 2 stand, so that you can set the nabi 2 up like a monitor – it tilts to a ton of angles, and slips on and off super easy. Then grab a set of nabi headphones for car rides or times when you’d like a little peace and quiet. They offer really crisp, hi-def sound, with a volume limiting setting to protect kid’s hearing. Then add a fun letter pack or character packs {like you see below} to personalize your nabi 2.

  1. We are looking at tablets for our kids. It’s hard to balance kid-friendly and growth. Thanks for sharing.

  2. What a cute tablet for kids

  3. Meagan – What ages do you recommend this for? Is it more for my 2 year old to start with and grow into or more advanced for my 5 year old? (I am guessing the latter judging from the shows included.)

    And yes, I played Oregon Trail :)

  4. I am all Disney, all the time and i did not know about this!
    Thanks for the info!
    Mitch

  5. THis tablet looks amazing! I never heard of it before but it sounds wonderful!

  6. Are the Disney apps worth the $199 vs just getting the regular nabi 2 for $99-129 on Black Friday? I already have one nabi 2 and so far it has been indestructible!! But I can’t seem to get disney videos unless I figure out to put them on a disk.

  7. I’m interested in your knowledge about the difference between the nabi 2 vs nabi 2 Disney…
