Online Photography Classes that Rock

Do you want to take better pictures? Whether you’re a blogger who wants to take better food photos, an Etsy shop owner wanting to present your products in the best possible light {literally!}, or a mom who wants to capture beautiful photos of your family – learning to take better pictures is a skill on my women’s “to learn” list. I’ve put together tons of tips lately on my Take a Better Photo board on Pinterest – most work for anyone, even if you don’t have a fancy DSLR camera. And, one of my favorite sites, Craftsy, has some really awesome new online photography classes you might like too.

Online Photography Classes for Any Skill Level

You can choose from a ton of different online photography classes on Craftsy – things like Landscape photography, taking better portraits, shooting intimate close-up environments, or this one above that I’m excited to take -”Shoot It: A Product Photography Primer.” I often have trouble getting good photos of items for product reviews, and hope to start an Etsy shop in the next year, so this is a big help for me! Knitter and photographer Caro Sheridan explains it all – from planning before the shoot to editing afterwards, and all the details in between. Here’s a taste of what you’ll learn:

  • How to plan and execute a photoshoot from start to finishMaking a storyboard and shot list to create the story you want to tell
  • What a pro keeps in her tool kit – from lipstick to legal forms
  • How to capitalize on the fancy features of whatever camera you have
  • Directing your model and getting the hero shot
  • Photo fundamentals like composition and color
  • The basics of digital editing – without expensive software

What is Craftsy? Craftsy is a worldwide craft community offering online classes. It also has a patterns marketplace where independent designers can sell their patterns; a supplies shop with great deals on yarn, fabric, and class kits; and a projects section where members share pictures of their latest craft successes. With over two million members and counting, Craftsy has something for just about everyone, in categories ranging from quilting, sewing, knitting, painting, photography, cooking, and more.

Why should I take a class online? Online education isn’t just for schools and universities anymore {although you know I’m a big fan of those too. I got my degree in Marketing from University of Phoenix.} Craftsy courses provide you the convenience of a world-class instructor in your home, whenever you want to learn. Online education, no matter what subject, is a great alternative to in-person classes, especially for busy moms like us.

With many online learning opportunities being on-demand, you are able to learn at your own pace, anytime. Online learning is a fantastic alternative to in-store craft classes for people with busy schedules or who have difficulty leaving the house, or finding a babysitter. It also allows you to watch a troubling section over-and-over again, so you can see exactly how a technique is carried out, or refer back to your class for relevant concepts before beginning any new projects. And you can check them out by taking one of the Free Craftsy Classes first – they’re like mini-courses, so you can see how cool they are. Trust me, you’ll get hooked :)

And I have a surprise for you…there is a Craftsy 24 Hour Halloween Flash Sale! Ends at Midnight Tonight - October 25th!
